Introduction: I am a senior pre-med biomedical engineering student at Mizzou. I often found that receiving help from someone in my age group made learning easier than a professor due to different perspectives of the content. I try to reciprocate my experiences to you through my service. I have taken both the ACT and SAT multiple times, receiving a 34 and 1550 as my highest on each, respectively. I also received 800's on my Math 2, Chemistry, and Physics SAT 2 exams. Through Thumbtack, I've tutored ACT, SAT, AP Physics, math, and college physics but I am also a writing tutor at Mizzou's Writing Center and volunteer tutor for high school students. I have experience in tutoring writing, chemistry, and biology. I have also gotten a 520 on the MCAT (98 percentile) and am also available for tutoring on that exam. Math Tutoring

James is tutoring both of my children (16yrs, 12yrs) in math. I have two very different learners and he has been able to work really well with both of them. He is patient, creative, and generous! We would hire him again and again. Thanks, James!!

Math Tutoring

James has been the absolute BEST tutor I have ever had!!! I’ve tried out multiple tutors but no one is able to help me understand statistics as well as him. He is able to thoroughly explain the material and is incredibly patient with any difficulties I face. He helps me stay on track and makes me feel more confident about problem solving! I never thought I’d understand math remotely, but James has shown me otherwise. I’m very grateful I have finally found someone who can truly help me!!!!

Math Tutoring

Me and my daughter really enjoy working with James. He is very patient and uses different ways of explaining the topic to make sure she understands it correctly. My daughter needs help in math and James is very caring and takes pride in his work. We are definitely recommending James if your child needs help with math.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I get to know the student and ask about college goals. I want our relationship to be informal yet intentional, since that allows for better engagement.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started tutoring with Ferguson Youth Tutors in my sophomore year because it sounded fun. It truly turned out to be an enjoyable experience due to the students' visible progress and I've continued doing so in my free time throughout high school.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I've worked with several students from elementary school up to college. My strength is with middle school to college students. Occasionally, I taught adults working towards the G.E.D.'s.
