- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Mr. Moreland has over 40 years of education and experience and has absorbed thousands of hours of specialized training. Throughout his career, he has developed cost effective security programs for commercial properties of all sizes and for many internationally known corporations. He has thousands of hours of hands-on experience working with commercial properties such as nightclubs, retail stores, shopping centers, convenience store chains, fast-food outlets, and apartment properties. He has earned a solid reputation for conceiving solutions that are practical, reasonable, and effective because of having been there and knowing that security programs must interface with the asset protected. He has assisted in developing crime prevention standards and has received awards for his service to his profession. Mr. Moreland has an A.A. degree in Police Science, a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice, and has completed 6-units towards an M.S. degree in the same major. He is a frequent speaker on the subjects of crime foreseeability, crime prevention, retail security, and premises liability and has consulted with or appeared on several radio and television shows speaking on the topics of crime prevention and self defense. He has authored over 50 articles, dozens of security training, and personal safety videos. He is currently publishing a book entitled Urban Crime Prevention.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Shelton R. Moreland is an internationally known author, trainer, speaker, private investigator, and security consultant. He is an expert in the fields of security management, crime and loss prevention, investigations, self defense, and premises liability. He specializes in the anticipation, recognition, and prevention of crime on most commercial property types. He consults with business owners and managers, insurance agencies, and the police on how to reduce the risk. Mr. Moreland also consults with the media, attorneys, and testifies as a security expert witness in various jurisdictions.
