FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have some very detailed questionairre forms that help me generate an idea of what the customer has in mind and what their goals are. In fact, many clients have told me how these questions have helped them open their eyes to many things they never considered. It sort of gets their creative juices flowing. After they fill these out, I follow up with a phone call to go over everything. Some people are not all about filling out forms. For those clients, we usually do everything over the phone or in person. Every client is unique and every goal is different. It's important to understand where the client is coming from and what sort of obstacles they have come across in the past.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My drive is to stay on top of the latest website trends and changes to Google algorithms. This is very easy to accomplish when you have the passion to do things you love. My eye is always set to what new trends are appearing on websites nowadays so my sites always reflect that. It's also important to know how Google is operating in order to keep my clients on page on in Google searches.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started to realize that I had a thing for picking up things real quickly when it came to the Internet, using Microsoft Windows applications, creating spreadsheets, etc... Next thing I know, we would have people from other office suites "borrowing" me to help them because their computer crashed, or they lost a file, that kind of thing. But the one thing that changed everything was the relationship my boss had with his website design company. He was fed up with them. We are talking way back in 2004-2005, when websites weren't nearly as sophisticated as they are now. The website design company who did our website were unresponsive, expensive and seemed to be only concerned with collecting invoices from him. I remember my boss one day saying, "Geez, I would REALLY love to do away with these guys, but I don't know the first thing about website design." It was there when the proverbial light bulb went off inside my head. I said to him, "Hey, if you buy me the software, I will build you a site." Pretty funny considering I knew NOTHING about web design. What I did know however is that it would allow me to be creative once again. Yes! That's it! I just discovered a job that allows me to be creative!
