As a singer-songwriter, Clifton was the lead guitarist and songwriter for Coyote/TwinTone and IRS/MCA Records recording artists Kilkenny Cats out of Athens, Ga. Kilkenny Cats was one of a handful of visionary bands pioneering the way for the alternative independent music explosion. In 1986, Kilkenny Cats appeared in the major motion picture, Athens GA Inside Out released by PolyGram studios.
In 1996, Clifton recorded an independent release with multi-platinum producer David Barbe, the owner of Chase Park Transduction studios in Athens, Ga. More recently, Clifton has spent time co-writing with John Allen of SR-71, a co-recipient of the 2007 BMI award for most played pop song, 1985, performed by Bowling for Soup. Clifton has also recently been co-writing with Grammy-nominated, remixer-songwriter-producer, Larry Fordyce aka Ford.
With over 40 gold, platinum, and multi-platinum RIAA production credits, Ford is one of the hottest all-time music producers in the world. Clifton is the principle songwriter for his solo project Edge of the Wheel, and has recorded a 9-song album not yet released. Clifton is currently working on songs for an album to be produced by multi-platinum, rock and hip-hop producer and songwriter, Billy Hume of Party Like a Rock Star fame at The Zone in Atlanta, Ga.
