I really enjoyed working with Arlen's service. He was quick and to the point developing my resume and the cover letter. What really makes his service unique is his personal touch. His conversation about what it takes to get your resume read and what employers are looking for really gave clarity to my job search. His interview assistance guarantee is also a plus. I would recommend his service to anyone looking for serious no fluff resume writing help.

Jerome was not only the lowest estimate that I received for my resume, he was also the absolute best choice that I could have made! He did a 30 minute phone interview with me, gathered all my information, and created a masterpiece for me in less than 3 days time. I would recommend Jerome to any one that is in need of a resume or any other professional writing service. Sean Martin - Venice FL 7/1/18

David was extremely thorough, diligent, and patient with me through the entire process of generating my resume. He took the time to learn about my former employment history and was able to translate the relevant information about my job duties/responsiblities into a beautiful and cohesive document. I couldn't possibly be happier with the finished product and would highly recommend David's services. I spent a lot of time looking at many different companies and individuals that offer resume writing services and feel like I couldn't have possibly to chosen someone better to help me with this endeavor.

My Experience with Monica was great she is so knowledgeable of word usage, writing styles, and resume/cover letter design. What set her apart of the others was the simple fact that all I needed her to do was write me a cover letter and she went as far as to give me resume suggestions, go through a couple interview question, on top of writing a great cover letter. I assure you I will continue to use her in the future, thanks Monica your the best!

Tiffany is amazing! She’s been an asset to my company time and time again. We needed editing/writing help for a flyer for our graphic design company and she understood exactly what we were looking for. We’ve also used her services on branding statements and bios as well. She always turns around the edits promptly and gives us invaluable suggestions, revisions ideas, and advice. We can’t thank her enough for her guidance on the various copywriting and marketing help. She’s great to work with and we recommend him highly!

As a membership club I work with Michelle to write a letter to include with my annual performance review. This letter highlightings the contributions to my company and requests a raise in my salary . If you know anything about requesting a raise, you know it is nerve-racking! Well Michelle's never failed me! I always get a $1.00 more after reading my letter. I have found out that other employees in my company request raises as well and the gain half of what I received. I truly credit Michelle's help working with me on gaining increased income and assisting me with identitying my strengths and skills.

Sarah is a rare writer who can do both creative pieces and technical work. Sarah wrote the most lively, engaging scripts for animated shorts we used to explain facets of employee benefits programs. She managed to make the topics of sickness, disability, and death less depressing and boring ensuring employees learned what they needed to learn to make good decisions about benefits for themselves and their families. Sarah also wrote several technical guides for HR technologies in use at our clients. She balanced the content between illustrative pictures and minimal words to ensure the HR managers could quickly and easily execute their most common tasks with a simple glance at the guide.

Mrs. Head was my English teacher during my undergraduate degree (psychology). She provides a plethora of knowledge as it relates to resume skills, and other professional writing. In fact, upon completing my graduate degree (social work) , I continuously consult with Mrs. Head for professional writing tips, resumes, and reference checks. She is always willing to help and guide you through the "professional world". I whole-heartedly recommend Mrs. Head to assist anyone professionally! She is kind, caring and very helpful!

I used Marietta Professional Proofreading for a Masters dissertation I was writing. They were brilliant. They were about half the price of the other services I got quotes for and turned the work around quickly. They proofread and edited the thesis, but used Microsoft track changes so I could pick what I wanted changed and what I thought could stay the same. I would highly recommend them and would use them again!

Rhana is an extraordinary tutor and exhibits a great, adaptable teaching style for the student. She is exceptionally patient with helping students grasp the writing concepts quickly. She consistently displays a positive “can-do” attitude, which really helps students feel comfortable asking her difficult questions. Without Rhana believing in my untapped knowledge I do not know how I would have gotten through these tough writing assignments.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
