I used Eleven Coaching to help me push through inertia and exercise my creative muscle in doing projects that had been stalling for years. Mic Mell is very good at discovering where our human minds search for old, comfortable, yet ineffective patterns. He helped me learn how to push past those patterns in a non-combative, but self-supportive manner. His style is very effective and nurturing without being soft or compromising. Mic is also one of these people who seem so genuinely interested in seeing his clients succeed in their goals and exploration. The only area where my working with Mic could have been improved was pushing through my own reluctance in touching base with him outside of our regular calling schedule. Mic made sure I knew he was always at the ready to provide advice or inspiration any time of the day. The few times that I had an exchange with him while immersed in a project were immensely valuable, but I didn't always take advantage of that. As our project completed, I realized this and think that I might have made more advances in many other areas if I had arrived at my progress sooner, by using Mic as a resource to "up my game" during his many offers of availability. Working with Mic has made such a positive difference in my life and my relationships that I won't hesitate to look for opportunities to work with him again.

Our family met Gary when he became the Math and Science teacher for our daughters at Aya Educational Institute. Our eldest daughter loved math. Gary challenged her knowledge and led her to explore/master concepts in trigonometry and physics that she uses today with her students and younger family members. Our youngest daughter hated math/science due to learning challenges. Gary partnered with her and helped her become comfortable and proficient in geometry and physics. While she still works very hard to maintain her level of knowledge, she is aided by the patience, creativity, and commitment she received from her two years with Gary! As a learning partner, Gary uses his considerable expertise to guide, challenge, and support his students at every point along their journey. We wholeheartedly recommend Gary as a learning partner for your student regardless of their ability/knowledge of mathematical or scientific principles. The Hampton Family

Susan is an absolute delight to work with. I am a very creative artist and Susan was able to hear my thoughts and put them into words -without getting lost in my ramblings. the work was for a grant and she completed it in only 3 days time. Her work is not only clear but engaging and her skill set is evident-having someone who can articulate creative thoughts is a great value and I look forward to working with her again.

Charles Justus Garard, Jr. PhD I have known Dr. Garard for approximately 28 years and worked with him as a colleague, teaching at the college level from 1989 until 2003. During my association with Dr. Garard, I have observed his expertise not only in teaching and mentoring but also in his writing skills. He was exceptional at proofreading several of my documents and manuscripts, as well as offering other colleagues writing and literary assistance. In addition to his regular college teaching duties, he taught English as a second language on weekends to students in several minority communities in Atlanta. He traveled to China as a professor in English language, literature, and writing, where he served for seven (7) years. Dr. Garard has demonstrated an outstanding talent with the English language and is an invaluable asset to both writers and editors. Please feel free to contact me if I can offer further insight into Dr. Garard’s gifted abilities. Donald W. Blair 404-375-1435

As the Creative Services Manager at SED, I have worked closely with Kari in our Marketing Department for several years. Kari showcased her strength and talent immediately when she was hired as a Marketing manager at SED. It was obvious that her goal was to spearhead a complete transformation of an under-performing Marketing team, which she successfully did with an unswerving focus on business results. With Kari’s award –winning talent for building relationships with the world’s leading brands in the industry, SED Marketing soon became a top-flight creative function. Kari was promoted to Marketing Director, and not long after became the VP of Marketing Services, all within the short time of 7 years. During her lead, she was a key player in some of our successful organizational turnaround by building our brand name in the many necessary avenues including digital and email marketing, lead generation, print, PR, SEO, advertising and social media. Kari’s has a remarkable way of bringing out the best in the creative professionals on our team, including myself. Get ready for a boost in revenue and success if you work with Kari Stevison

Absolutely awesome! I needed social media help, but it turned out I need administrative help as well. I wasn't forced to pay a bunch of fees and my contract was extremely flexible. Want to keep TvR to myself!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
