TL;DR: Contractor was consistently and significantly late for appointments, provided inaccurate updates about his arrival, and reacted unprofessionally to my concerns, despite my flexibility, leading to a mutual decision to part ways before work began due to his unreliability.
I agreed to have Patrick Moorehouse/Stonehaven Masonry do a masonry project for me and found him pleasant enough in our initial interactions.
However, his ongoing issues with punctuality, misleading communication, and unprofessional response caused significant inconvenience, requiring me to rearrange my schedule multiple times in an effort to accommodate him.
Our initial Monday appointment to start the project was rescheduled by him to Tuesday due to prior rain, but he waited until late Sunday evening to tell me he wanted to start on Tuesday instead of Monday —a change I willingly accommodated, as people have busy schedules, and I understand that weather can affect masonry work.
However, a pattern of excessive lateness and unreliable updates emerged:
- Tuesday: Scheduled for 11:00 AM arrival. At 11:31 AM, he texted he was in Duluth [I am in Alpharetta, only 15 miles away] with bad traffic. At 1:19 PM, he claimed he was “19 minutes away,” yet arrived at 1:45 PM—over 2.5 hours late, contradicting his update. At 1:22 PM, he apologized, citing a trailer speed limit and traffic, and later expressed embarrassment in person when he finally arrived.
- Wednesday: Agreed on an 8:30 AM start. At 8:24 AM, he texted he’d arrive in 45–60 minutes, but he arrived around 10:00 AM, by which time I had to leave for my own appointment.
On Tuesday, he had dumped a load of crushed stone for the foundation (approx. 2/3 cu. yd.), which I accepted under the condition he’d start work on Wednesday at 8:30 AM.
At his 10:00 AM (late) arrival on Wednesday, I expressed concerns about his repeated lateness and inaccurate updates, highlighting my previous flexibility.
Despite his earlier apologies for the previous day’s delay, he reacted this time with irritation to my concerns about his unreliability.
We mutually agreed to part ways.
Then, reluctant to shovel the 1,500 pounds of rock dumped in my driveway back onto his trailer—likely avoiding an hour’s effort and probably happy I agreed—he framed leaving the stone as a big favor to me, claiming it would save me/the next contractor $600–$700. I didn’t realize until checking later that the stone’s value was closer to $35-$40 and far from compensated me for the nearly five hours I’d spent waiting for Patrick over the two days. I agreed he could leave the stone but told him not to return.
After he left, he texted that he had informed Thumbtack about the situation, suggesting any review might be under “false pretenses” because he did “absolutely nothing wrong,” further highlighting his unprofessional attitude.
While I cannot comment on his masonry skills, Patrick’s consistent lateness, inaccurate updates, and unprofessional responses, despite my willingness to accommodate him, made collaboration impossible.
If timely performance and clear communication are important to you, these may be factors to consider.

Stonehaven masonry's reply
Robin,
We are saddened to see that you have not been honest in your review,
The first time we met we had a great experience, it was the second time we met and I was late and kept you posted the whole time because I was towing a trailer that can not go over 50 miles per hour and was in the middle of Atlanta traffic but we did indeed apologize for being late, but after your countless demands & you insisting that your going to tell us how to work and what tools we should and not have we as a company decided we did not want to work for you & offered to removed the old stone but you insisted we leave it, again we are sorry we could not feel comfortable enough to work on your home and we wish you the very best on finding a contractor that fits your needs
Thank you
