Students should bring a notebook and a 3-Ringed binder every day to the lesson along with any music books they are working on. POLICY (revised Jan. 30, 2019) Four lessons are charged in advance. For this semester, payments are due the weeks of: Jan. 20th Feb. 4th March 4th April 8th May 6th June 3rd July 8th Any cancellations should be made at least 24-hours in advance. Sudden illness or a family emergency are exceptions to the one-day-in-advance policy. Cancelled lessons must be made-up within 30 days of the cancellation on one of the “available” lesson times listed on the calendar page of this website or the lesson will be lost. If I need to cancel a lesson, I will try and make it up on one of the available times, but if it is NOT convenient for the student, then the lesson will roll-over into the next week/month, without being lost. Jury Duty is scheduled for me on Feb. 11th Make-ups can a occur on Sundays. Available lessons might change weekly, so please check my website calendar to find when a good day would be to make-up a lesson. Simply send me a text or email to ask for that time slot. Lesson times are flexible in the summer, after school ends, but current students who want to guarantee a spot (not a time) for the next school semester, beginning Aug. 19th, 2019-2020, must commit to at least eight (8) thirty-minute lessons any time I am available between May 27th and August 17th, 2019. Students who decide to stop taking lessons should do so before a new monthly payment cycle begins. Please let me know if you plan to stop lessons.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically give an introductory piano lesson so the customer can meet me and I can learn at what skill level the student is. We come up with a plan together and decide on short and long-term goals. I create tailored lessons for each child or adult in order to exactly fit the student's interests, abilities, budget, and schedule. I try hard to find free, legal, online music or create the sheet music myself using music software to keep costs down for my students. I am extremely patient and flexible but have high expectations for my musicians. I always want students challenging themselves with new pieces and concepts. I love using technology when I can and when it is practical in my lessons. As a motivational factor, I encourage my students to take videos of them selves playing their lessons throughout the week and to send them to my email for help and encouragement. I gently push my students to create their own music and teach them the skills to do this. I hold recitals twice a year in my home to give students a chance to perform in front of others and to show off what they have learned. For those who prefer a highly structured program, that offers certificates of achievements, I can help them work through the excellent and progressive ABRSM system. For advanced high school students, it is encouraged that they work towards the GMEA (Georgia Music Educator's Association) All-State Piano Competition.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have given piano lessons for 30 years to students of all ages and levels. I passed the ABRSM level 8 in 2002 with distinction. I have a Masters Degree in Teaching from the University of Southern California. I have accompanied many choirs, played in my church and played at private parties, too.
