Carlos was great to work with. I hired him to handle my lighting on a reno project and he was quick and efficient to install new lighting throughout the house and added can lights in the kitchen. He later came to my rescue when a previous contractor didn’t work out and was quick to pick up the add’l work installing new flooring, a ceiling repair, painting and fixing a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Thanks to him, I was finally able to sell my property and everyone complemented the finishes especially, thanks to Carlos!!

I could not be more pleased with my Showers and Bathroom Floors!! The tile is beautiful and exactly what we wanted. The Installer was very professional and the attention to detail was impeccable. In the master bath, we opted for a walk-in shower with knee wall, accessory niche, bench, and dual shower heads. They were also able to do a floor design which really added to the look. Although we hadn’t originally planned to do the shower in the guest bath, we decided to after the floors were put in because it looked so great. The custom glass looks beautiful as well. In the third bathroom, per the installer’s recommendation, we added tub and wall accents along with the floors. I would definitely recommend this company and use them in the future!

I hired Scoa remodeling to work on a house built in 1953 that I am about to sell. There was rotten wood all along the exterior facia which needed replacing and painting. Mr. Wilkins proposed a plan to repair the wood, and pressure wash and paint the exterior. His work was quick and very professional so I hired Scoa to paint the interior and fix some buckled dry wall. Mr. Wilkins repaired dry wall, fixed a minor mold problem and painted the interior of the house. The work took about 1 1/2 months and was very professional. He gave me a fair price on all the work. I will hire him again at my next place. Also, I hired Jimmy for an entire home remodel and he handled the entire renovation for me. He painted the interior and exterior and painted the kitchen cabinets so now they look brand new. He installed brand new hardwoods in the kitchen and sanded and polished the existing hardwoods so they look brand new also. He renovated two bathrooms with new tile and glaze to the existing tub so that looks brand new as well. He installed all the new fixtures and appliances in the kitchen. You can hire Jimmy for small jobs or very large jobs. His prices are very good and his quality is excellent. I highly recommend him and I will call him my self for future jobs.

Great carpet folks at affordable price who delivered with excellence. This project was an unexpected RUSH job for our investment group. Owner operated, Ralph and his professional carpet installer team went above and beyond to keep our property listing timeline on track. The carpet was reasonably priced for the carpet grade he selected. Our (non-smoking) installers arrived early and stayed late while they cheerfully moved a significant amount of furniture to complete the carpet project install. Midway through the installation, we discovered broken tile between the kitchen floor and hallway transition. Ralph was a true knight in shining armor. Without hesitation, he effectively assessed the situation. Then he personably drove at his expense to Home Depot retrieved a perfect threshold solution, stained it to match the kitchen flawlessly and installed it!!! Completely solved what could easily become an expensive tile job that could have derailed our listing schedule. We will definitely be using this flooring expert team again on future property management of rentals and/or renovation flip real-estate resale projects.

Jamie was fantastic - professional, on time, courteous, honest, and pleasant to have around on top of that. I wouldn't hesitate to leave him alone in my house doing work. He cleaned all the grout and tile in my bathroom, including my tub - it took about half a day. The difference (before vs after) was astounding - he delivered exactly what he promised. He made sure I was pleased with the work before leaving, and let me know to call him if there were any issues afterwards. I found the price to be very competitive, and would hire him again for any of the services he provides in a second! Highest possible recommendation from me.

Michael did some work on my house a few months ago and I was thoroughly pleased. The new tile he put in my bathroom and the repair work he did to my ceiling came out great! I liked his work so much that I have him coming back to do some work on my outside as well.

For months I had been searching for the perfect contractor to fix my bathroom situation; the floor of my 70sq ft bathroom needed to be re-tiled due to water damage from a leaking pipe behind the wall, and I suspected I had a leaking shower pan as well. Some people wanted way too much money, while others were only interested in a job in the $10k-$20k range. Some contractors never returned my calls, while others came to look at the project to prepare a quote, but I never heard from them again (ahem, Moda). That's when I turned to Thumbtack and found Orange Cat Flooring - now my problem is solved. Christian responded to my Thumbtack inquiry right away with a quote that was more than reasonable. He came the next day to look at the job, which at the time was just to re-tile the floor (crossing fingers that the shower pan was alright). All was going according to plan. Christian was responsive, polite and very professional. A fresh change of pace compared to what I had been dealing with from other contractors. All in all, I was "feeling good", which is important. Always trust your instincts The morning of the job the tile was removed from the bathroom floor and my concern about the shower pan became a reality. Christian and I discussed a change in course for the project; we needed to install a new shower pan and then move on to the floor to re-tile. Christian's favorite phrase while working on this job was "no problem". Both Christian and his crew member, Jefferey (who was also professional, polite and a great worker) hopped into the truck and headed to Home Depot to get the supplies needed for a new shower pan. Altogether I got a new shower pan, new tile on the bathroom floor, and they cleaned up the grout inside the shower. Now, I can honestly say that I have the best bathroom in my building. I'm sure others in my condo will be having bathroom envy :) I give these guys two thumbs up - way up, for the amazing service they have provided. This has turned out way better than I ever would have imagined. Thanks again fellas. I'll make sure to give you a ring in the future when the need for more floor or tile work arrises.

I just moved into a condo and Seattle and needed to have two bathrooms, a bedroom, and an entryway painted - both walls and ceilings. Alan was by far the most reasonable price and in line with what I can come to expect from living on the East Coast prior to Seattle. A number of other quotes local painters that operate in the Seattle where ridiculous in comparison. I was not very well versed in painting and materials, so Alan was able to talk me through the options for paint types and recommendations. Alan showed up on time the day of work and displayed consistent communication via text messages. The project took three days to complete. The first day Alan completed the priming - the entry way and one bathroom on the second - and the final bathroom and bedroom on the third. I spent portion of the first day on site and felt comfortable enough to have my girlfriend oversee the work the remainder of the week. Alan is a very personable individual and easy to work with. The only area of improvement that I would note is that there are a few areas of trim and edging between the ceiling a walls that could have been a little neater or sharper. It did not take much time to touchup, so there were no major concerns. Overall, Alan was easy to work with, his price was far more reasonable than his competitors, and he completed the work in a timely manner.

I have worked with a lot of contactors but Eric is definitely the best out of all of them. He put in granite countertops in the kitchen and batrooms for a great price. He also helped with the kitchen lights, he put in new faucets, and aassisted with a few plumbing needs. He is professional, friendly, responsible, neat, and takes pride in his work. You will not be disappointed at all. I HIGHLY recommend him.

My wife and I are overall happy with the installation of tile in our kitchen. In our case he was one of four the we quoted he was the only one that mentioned installing them on a 45 degree offset and recommended where and what kind of tile to get. We bought the tile and grout he recommended and he supplied the underlayment and the labor. Tony showed up on time which is a big plus in my book. If I had to nit-pick I took a star off because as I looked I saw some areas where the tiles were uneven and spacing/gaps were off and not weren't consistent but you had to really look and most wouldn't notice unless pointed out. Trim that was cut in the middle of a wall were one piece would of been better looking and make better since. Again overall we are happy with the install Would I recommend him to others? Yes

Mr. Baynes has been a contractor for me for numerous projects in my home. The scope and nature of the project work included entire interior and exterior painting of a 6800 sq. ft. home, deck restoration and painting, siding replacement, new construction of sunroom, power washing of house exterior and driveways, new appliance installations, wall and ceiling replacement after major water damage, carpet installation, tile refinishing in the bath area, painting of exterior rod iron fence and gates and widow re-sealing and re-glazing. While home improvement projects are inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Mr. Baynes’s services as a contractor were invaluable, and I have been extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Mr. Baynes top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently. Mr. Baynes was knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in his respective trades. He was conscientious about all of the project specifications, and his work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work. Mr. Baynes was professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of my property and privacy. He had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. His pride in his work was evident. He tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found him to be trustworthy, and felt comfortable with allowing him access inside my home. 3. Project management and coordination. Mr. Baynes’s prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of my projects, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities, effectively. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the projects, I was impressed with Mr. Baynes’s commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. 5. Effective communication. Mr. Baynes kept me closely informed of work schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of the projects. His communication was always clear, informative, and helpful. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall; he worked diligently with me to identify solutions that was acceptable to me. 7. Responsiveness to my needs and concerns. Mr. Baynes’s commitment to my satisfaction was evident in his actions. 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Mr. Baynes gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the projects. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Ms. Baynes delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price.

We hired Don with Affordable Contracting to repair a number of projects around the house. One was a large 8' x 8' drywall replacement in the ceiling from a previous leak, along with replacing crown molding and the finishing touches. Also we needed the flooring replaced with tile in the upstairs bathroom from the same leak. Another couple of odd jobs like cabinet flooring replacement and replacing a rotting board around the outdoor, door frame. Don took care of all of this in an extremely professional and very timely manner and the work was impeccable. He added much needed finishing touches that we did not even think of without additional costs. He showed up immediately when I was available, gave me a fantastic estimate, final pricing and was beyond courteous. Don is not the first contractor I have dealt with recently but is by far the best one I've come across and the only one I will ever call again for future projects. Highly recommended!

Where do I start, Alex did so much on my renovation project. I recently purchased a home and wanted coffered ceilings added to the kitchen, basement and living room...I sent pictures to Alex and asked if he could do it. He said, YES I CAN! And yes he did, he not only did extensive trim molding but took up all the carpet on the second floor added hardwood flooring and to top it all off he completed a bathroom tile renovation for me as well. He added a wood tile to my fireplace it is absolutely "breath taking" and backsplash to my kitchen. He can do it ALL!!! If you hire him you won't be disappointed!!! Excellent Work!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
