We had to pack-up and move my Mom's three story house which had alot of antique furniture. We were very concerned about moving the funiture which was big and bulky without scratchs or damages to her family heirlooms. They were very professional and took great care in packing and moving everything. We were very pleased with their service and would use this company again. We also felt that their fees were a good value for the excellent services they provided. This is definitely a customer service oriented company and we would recommend them to a friend.

Lcttoo Moving Company is top notch! I moved from Massachusetts to South Carolina and wanted to give a local company (in SC) my business. Gary was professional from the first point of contact. I was moving long distance and had no idea of the actual date. I gave Gary a date in July and ended up selling my home quicker than expected and needed to be out by mid-June. Gary was extremely flexible with the change of moving dates and made me feel at ease from the very start. Gary and Daniel arrived on time and were polite and well mannered from start to finish. All of my items (and I had an excessive amount) arrived to storage and my new apartment in perfect condition! Gary and his team moved me a week before I actually arrived in my new destination and the whole process couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Competent, sensitive (because, let’s face it, moving long distance is extremely stressful!!) movers like you are the prize of the profession. I saw your motto of improvise, adapt, and overcome in action through the entire process and I can't say enough good about you and your entire operation. I look forward to my next move! My husband was out of town on business, and on short notice, Friday 4/24/15, I as told that we had to move out of the house that we were renting. I did not have enough time to plan, and didn't have a clue as to what we were going to do. I frantically searched different online listings and came across Mr. Michael Mercer's moving service. Mr. Mercer assured me that I needed not to worry. They were very accommodating to my schedule...I called on Saturday, 4/25/15, and they were there to move our furniture on Sunday, 4/26/15; the very next day! Furniture was handled with extreme care from start to finish! They were nice, friendly and also very understanding which is really hard to find nowadays. In addition, it did not take all day for the job to be completed! I will most definitely call Michael Mercer's moving service when we need to move again, and will also refer family and friends. Great crew, outstanding service and God sent! Truly a blessing!! Thanks again!

My experience with Honest and Dependable was just what the name says. They arrived before me and worked late making sure all of my items were boxed and loaded. They supplied material to pack my apartment up into boxes and keep it safe during transition. The next day they delivered my belongings across state safely and loaded it nice, safe, and neat as I was still in another state. The individual that unloaded my belongings sent me pictures of the finished product and I was able to pay online to make it easier for me. I would recommend Honest and Dependable for anyone looking to make a move local or long distance. If I am ever in need of moving services again, Hamilton and his crew will be my first call.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
