About this pro

How does your business stand out?

My commitment to my profession goes deeper than just being an average personal trainer or fitness instructor. I am proud of my accomplishments in a field that many think is just simple exercise or working out. I am certified in 3 specialties, with one of the very first sports medicine organizations in the world, ISSA International Sports Science Association, holding a certification in Specialist in Sports Nutrition, Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Specialist in Strength and Conditioning Coaching, as well as other intensive specialties (Strength Training Older Adults, Five Step Back Solution, Winning Sports Nutrition, Specific Nutrition, Women's Reshaping Your Body, Reshaping Your Mind Body Image, Functional Fitness Training, ACE Integrated Fitness Training Model for Exercise Success Program Design, ACE Practical Pointers For Group Training, ACE Cancer and Exercise, ACE Finding Success in The Corporate World, Work Place Wellness, HUNA Is Life, Philosophy of Healing the mind, body and soul, Harry Kealohalani Hale Makua, Prenatal & Postpartum Women's Fitness, Kinetic Anatomy and soon to be Elite Trainer with a Certification in Exercise Therapy. So as you can see I'm more than qualified and dedicated in giving each of my clients the very best. This kind of dedication comes from years of mentorship, physical training and running a family owned business. It takes a certain kind of person to have a vision, hold it, and make it happen, I'm that kind of person, and my clients know that about me. I take pride in who I am as a human being, I expect a lot from myself, and I give a lot to my personal clients as well as my group fitness clients. I make sure everyone in my classes leave happy. If they have questions I make the time to answer their questions, I get to know my clients as people, not just a person in my class, or a person I train every week. Because I listened to the needs of my clients, I've made HOME PERSONAL training a priority, but whether a client prefers the gym, workplace or other locations, I make sure they get the customized fitness and nutritional program to meet their personal goals. Some clients have medical concerns and prefer a more personal home space, or just don't feel secure in a public place, and for those moms, and dads, who just don't have the luxury of time, the home is a better alternative to their busy schedules. I also cater to corporate businesses in our community, which I offer weekly and monthly fitness programs, which include group exercise, healthy eating and nutrition in the workplace, and staying injury free. My services help local small and corporate businesses keep their employees fit, helps them learn stress management, and to work as a team. Those who know my style of coaching knows, I've never been about trends, and in this field of health & wellness trends can be overwhelming. I've learned early on that staying true to my beliefs and honoring the soul of a person, makes what I do a sharing, committing to ongoing academic study to better engage my clients on all levels as much as I can, is what matters to me. I don't want them leaving feeling that I didn't care about who they are. EVERYONE OF MY CLIENTS MATTER TO ME.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love what I do, that being the case, it's not a JOB! What I do is my passion, sharing aloha through health, wellness, and fitness for a thriving life, is more important to me than just showing my students and clients how to lose weight, or how to burn fat. I believe like the true meanings in life, when I create a comfortable rapport with the person who wants me to help them, I than can really do what I love to do, and that's to empower them to HELP THEMSELVES. When I see the smile on the face of a student that comes up to me and says, "Can I give you a hug, you've really changed my life?" I say sure, I know there's more going on there, mind, body & soul. So yes, LIFE IS REAL GOOD!

Workout with PK, you'll be glad you did!
My entire body feels like it gets a great work out each and every time I leave PK's class. Her teaching style is encouraging, supportive and fun! It's a jam-packed, 1-hour session with a variety of exercises utilizing weights, resistance bands, and ball to keep it fresh and easily fits into my busy schedule. The group sessions are comprised of individuals at different fitness levels but each movement can be curtailed to your own, so everyone benefits and can obtain their individual goals. Mahalo PK! Soul fitness for mind body and soul
PK's class on Saturday is a perfect workout for me. We do every body part at an appropriate pace. I have knee, hip and wrist issues. We are always able to work around them gently and still get a full workout. She always seems to be concerned with doing every exercise safely. This instructor always starts and ends the class promptly. I have taken this class through CCECS twice and will re enroll again! Jennifer Pirie

YOU INSPIRE ME AND MOTIVATE me to be the type of trainer I've always dreamed of being. Thank you for that. Mahalo PK

Describing a workout with PK Soares-Mercado is like trying to capture a fly with chopsticks....nearly impossible....but I'll try. It's resistance training, cardio (taken to new levels of creativity and fun), yoga, Pilates, athletic training (soccer, Bball and boxing come immediately to mind), and plain, good, old fashioned stretching....all rolled up into a blast of fresh air, pulsating positive energy and fun and laughter....what a kick in the pants.... After training on my own for about 15 years, then trying and quitting a young woman trainer/body builder, then an older, traditionally-based weight trainer.....I decided to ask PK if she felt it would fit....a vivacious and energetic kick up your heels 21st century certified trainer and a 60 something, even keeled, ostensibly boring gym rat....and I have to say....,it's been fantastic..,,just GREAT!!! I get text messages reminding me about my appointments, AND to not forget to hydrate and eat (or bring) my snacks!!!!! Mahalo nui, PK, for showing me the path to the next level. The hike is exhilarating!!!!

Aloha and Mahalo Joel, your dedication, work ethic, passion and desire to live a healthy thriving life, is why I do what I do. Yes, in the beginning it was a little hard to understand why we had to take the long route to conditioning and building strength and endurance but LOOK AT YOU NOW..... #superman. Thank you for trusting me with your health and wellness, and most of all allowing me to be your friend. Blessed PK

It has been great having PK as a personal trainer, she makes me feel comfortable, and continues to push me to want to do better!! I have tried many classes & diets, and there has never been one that I have felt comfortable taking. PK was and still is very helpful and PATIENT with this journey of mine. I can't express how thankful I am to have such a wonderful TRAINER/FRIEND, who still continues to guide me toward my goal to a healthier and fit lifestyle. Without her help and guidance I wouldn't feel stronger, healthier, and more confident!!
    PK S. Mar 12, 2015

Stephanie, you're amazing, your work ethic, your dedication, commitment and passion, truly set's you a part from all the rest. It's truly my pleasure working with you, supporting you, and seeing your amazing transformation on a weekly basis. You make my job, not a job but a life's passion. Thank you, Pk.

I originally approached PK because at 54 years old, I was feeling weak and less capable physically than I wanted to be. I have been training with PK for 5 months now, but within 3 months noticed a huge difference in my balance and strength. PK has done an excellent job of taking me from having multiple weak areas of my body to feeling strong overall. She has carefully and patiently addressed my ongoing physical issues, resolved some of my chronic aches and pains, and has led me to a new and wonderful place of physical strength and balance. She is knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor, so our workouts together are not only informative, but also fun.

PK is pretty amazing. I was a student in one of PK's classes and because of that hired her as a personal trainer to work with me at our residence. I am older and she did age appropriate warm ups, weight lifting and core exercises with me. She arrived on time, varied the workout, introduced me to new equipment and constantly challenged me in a safe way. I was amazed how many ways she knew to vary the workout. PK is a fun lady with a lot to offer!

Mahalo Jan for the awesome review, always a pleasure working and training with you. Aloha PK

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial Client Contact ~ Phone or internet contact, asking a few questions and setting up a meeting to discuss if I'm what a client is looking for as a personal trainer, life coach or fitness nutritional specialist. 2) Meeting Day ~ Client meets me at the gym, or designated location, We talk about their interests, concerns and if it's the client feels comfortable to commit to working with me on a month to month basis than we set up a schedule, discuss fees, I give them a NEW CLIENT intake forms to take with them and fill out, SIGN LIABILITY WAIVER, collect payment and depending if it's at the gym, than they would also pay for gym membership and sign gym's waiver as well. 3) If at the gym, I would do a walk through of the facility. 4) It would be the first scheduled day of training. ON that day I'd have the client do a strength test and cardio endurance test as well as a reach test, to see their over all fitness levels so I could assess what type of training program I'd be creating for them. 5) Would be our first day of training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every year I take 20-30 continued education credits to support my certification, including FIRST AID, CPR, and AED training. It is mandatory that professional like myself stay updated on the latest information provided in such a growing field of study. What was know 20 years ago in health and fitness is totally obsolete on so many levels. So I love taking new classes for the benefits of my clients as well as I'm a geek, and love to keep learning.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Life has a way of presenting obstacles, that become jumping boards to wonderful opportunities, that being the case, I jumped and I landed in what is today my love and passion for living a wonderful fulfilling life sharing what saved my life with those around me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Almost all of my clients range in age from 25 to 89, with medical histories that run the range of cancer survivors to sports injuries, what they all have in common is if I can keep them doing what they love to do in life, keeping them healthy, improving in their performance and staying injury free. My athlete clients range from team sports like rugby to soccer, and the individual adult athlete that want's to continue to maintain their love for their sports whether they're in their 30 or 80, want full body sports conditioning drills, body weight movements, cardio endurance and the likes. In my seniors fitness programs, I constantly create functional fitness mobility, stability and strengthening exercise combinations that will aid them with over all health benefits, but specifically with fall prevention. My open group fitness classes are geared towards over all fitness starting with proper form, mindful breathing, correct weight loading, cool down static stretching and a happy motivational safe environment, and if there's any Q&A. And the very young 5-and up, I created a FUN WITH FITNESS play class, where they do basic body weight drills, dancing and movement, to get them introduced to healthy activity for wellness.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
In support of CANCER SURVIVORS EVERYWHERE, I offered 4 CANCER SURVIVORS a months free membership and 4 personal training sessions each in honoring the American Cancer Societies RELAY FOR LIFE walk.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask as many questions as they want. If they have personal concerns regrading medical conditions, lay it on the table and ask if they can meet those needs, and if they can't can they lead them in the right direction to someone who can. Clients need to realize that personality matters, if when you meet a trainer and you don't feel comfortable for whatever reason, even if the price is right, that means it's not for you. Find one that resonates to your personality. if you find the right fit, you will have fun and grow a good professional relationship that will help you meet and surpass your goals.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I want to make your experience meeting me as comfortable and informative as possible. Before calling me to set up an appointment to meet,I suggest taking the time to think about why you really feel you need my help? Is it for one on one personal training to get in shape or back in shape, because you feel you need more professional instruction on how to use the gym equipment? Or is it that you're a bit shy, and would prefer one on one location training, by yourself, or with a group of 3 friends to make this journey into health and fitness fun, motivating and save some money in the long run? Are you in need of life coaching, to get you inspired, motivated, to learn how to manage stress? Or are you in need of a more information about FOOD, Dieting, & Nutrition, because trust me they are all different, if so, than take the time to write down a little note to yourself about what you really want to know from me, and I'll be sure to do my very best to help you help yourself get what you need. Trust me, everyone has questions, and I'm here to help you get answered, if you don't, you won't know where to begin, and you'll be doomed before you walk through that gym door for the very first time. If you're into fitness classes, I'm available for that too, if you're having a special event that you'd like to have a fitness demonstration with your guess participating I have special services offered for those ideas as well. So don't be shy, ask away.
