What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial Client Contact ~ Phone or internet contact, asking a few questions and setting up a meeting to discuss if I'm what a client is looking for as a personal trainer, life coach or fitness nutritional specialist. 2) Meeting Day ~ Client meets me at the gym, or designated location, We talk about their interests, concerns and if it's the client feels comfortable to commit to working with me on a month to month basis than we set up a schedule, discuss fees, I give them a NEW CLIENT intake forms to take with them and fill out, SIGN LIABILITY WAIVER, collect payment and depending if it's at the gym, than they would also pay for gym membership and sign gym's waiver as well. 3) If at the gym, I would do a walk through of the facility. 4) It would be the first scheduled day of training. ON that day I'd have the client do a strength test and cardio endurance test as well as a reach test, to see their over all fitness levels so I could assess what type of training program I'd be creating for them. 5) Would be our first day of training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every year I take 20-30 continued education credits to support my certification, including FIRST AID, CPR, and AED training. It is mandatory that professional like myself stay updated on the latest information provided in such a growing field of study. What was know 20 years ago in health and fitness is totally obsolete on so many levels. So I love taking new classes for the benefits of my clients as well as I'm a geek, and love to keep learning.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Life has a way of presenting obstacles, that become jumping boards to wonderful opportunities, that being the case, I jumped and I landed in what is today my love and passion for living a wonderful fulfilling life sharing what saved my life with those around me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Almost all of my clients range in age from 25 to 89, with medical histories that run the range of cancer survivors to sports injuries, what they all have in common is if I can keep them doing what they love to do in life, keeping them healthy, improving in their performance and staying injury free.
My athlete clients range from team sports like rugby to soccer, and the individual adult athlete that want's to continue to maintain their love for their sports whether they're in their 30 or 80, want full body sports conditioning drills, body weight movements, cardio endurance and the likes.
In my seniors fitness programs, I constantly create functional fitness mobility, stability and strengthening exercise combinations that will aid them with over all health benefits, but specifically with fall prevention.
My open group fitness classes are geared towards over all fitness starting with proper form, mindful breathing, correct weight loading, cool down static stretching and a happy motivational safe environment, and if there's any Q&A.
And the very young 5-and up, I created a FUN WITH FITNESS play class, where they do basic body weight drills, dancing and movement, to get them introduced to healthy activity for wellness.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
In support of CANCER SURVIVORS EVERYWHERE, I offered 4 CANCER SURVIVORS a months free membership and 4 personal training sessions each in honoring the American Cancer Societies RELAY FOR LIFE walk.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask as many questions as they want. If they have personal concerns regrading medical conditions, lay it on the table and ask if they can meet those needs, and if they can't can they lead them in the right direction to someone who can. Clients need to realize that personality matters, if when you meet a trainer and you don't feel comfortable for whatever reason, even if the price is right, that means it's not for you. Find one that resonates to your personality. if you find the right fit, you will have fun and grow a good professional relationship that will help you meet and surpass your goals.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I want to make your experience meeting me as comfortable and informative as possible. Before calling me to set up an appointment to meet,I suggest taking the time to think about why you really feel you need my help? Is it for one on one personal training to get in shape or back in shape, because you feel you need more professional instruction on how to use the gym equipment? Or is it that you're a bit shy, and would prefer one on one location training, by yourself, or with a group of 3 friends to make this journey into health and fitness fun, motivating and save some money in the long run? Are you in need of life coaching, to get you inspired, motivated, to learn how to manage stress? Or are you in need of a more information about FOOD, Dieting, & Nutrition, because trust me they are all different, if so, than take the time to write down a little note to yourself about what you really want to know from me, and I'll be sure to do my very best to help you help yourself get what you need. Trust me, everyone has questions, and I'm here to help you get answered, if you don't, you won't know where to begin, and you'll be doomed before you walk through that gym door for the very first time. If you're into fitness classes, I'm available for that too, if you're having a special event that you'd like to have a fitness demonstration with your guess participating I have special services offered for those ideas as well. So don't be shy, ask away.
