I once took some group singing lessons from Tricia, though I had never tried any voice training before. It was quite fun and Tricia can show a beginner how to practice to improve the voice as well as boost some self-confidence about singing in front of people. She also helped me correct my speech so that people can hear me more clearly. Her amazing ears can capture exactly what it is for each individual to improve on either speech or singing. Tricia is a person with very powerful spirit, so just being in her presence is quite energizing. She can work with professionals and much more advanced students too, so I believe that all levels of people have something to benefit from her lessons. Mahalo nui loa, Tricia!

I have been studying voice off and on with Tricia for about 15 years, and I just can’t say enough about the quality of training I have received from Tricia. When I first came to her, I was a painfully shy introvert, with extremely low self esteem. I had no self confidence in myself or my singing. I have always loved to sing, but didn’t have that “natural talent” that some people are lucky enough to have. Tricia helped me develop (and find) my voice after a few lessons, and already had me performing in a recital not long after I started lessons with her. Tricia has taught me everything from ear training, music theory, proper placement of the voice, breathing technique and turning that horrible “warble” into a natural vibrato that is really beautiful once achieved. I have studied with Tricia over the phone, the internet via skype, and in person. She hears everything with her golden ear, and she can tell how your posture is just by the sound of your voice. Tricia also has helped me during times when my vocal cords were swollen, and when I had some small thickening of the cords. With proper repair work, and better nutrition I began seeing results immediately. I have grown so much with Tricia’s help and guidance. I joined a band a few years ago, and have been invited as a guest singer with several other bands. Tricia is a superstar in her own right, and I highly recommend Tricia for anyone who is seeking a private coach.

Tricia Mo'orea is an incredible teacher. After just a few months of studying with her, my voice began to blossom into the kind of voice I'd only dreamed about having. Unlike most vocal coaches, she uses many different techniques from various musical traditions to help you find and strengthen your voice (and your ear). Her support and encouragement helped me overcome many hurdles. She convinced me that it is never too late to follow your dream, and gave me the confidence I so desperately lacked. I use the tools she taught me everyday. There aren't many teachers like Tricia in the world. She's truly a rare gem.

Tricia really knows her stuff. She is very precise in all her tips on how to train, develop, use one's voice. She employs a large array of techniques, not just a few. I learned a lot from her in the workshop series I took with her.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $200 per hour in person or over the Internet and then I have discounted packages for one hour, 45 minutes and 30 minute sessions. I charge what I am worth to people who want to only take one lesson or one lesson once in awhile. For consistency which is what you need for success, you get substantial discounts paying in advance. Example: for four consecutive weekly hourly lessons the rate can be as low as $380 which is $95 per lesson. There are larger packages as well and packages for lesser time. I run specials periodically and have some good specials running for the holiday season. My group rates run anywhere from $35-$50 per hour per person and I will travel to a group like a choir for $200 per hour.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I do after they have made a commitment with payment, is I send them a questionnaire via email. They fill that out and send it back and we make that first appointment which is generally 90 minutes. We go over the questionnaire and then I explain all the different components that make up this instrument that we will be studying and what they can expect. I test their range to see what they have naturally and what they are capable of getting, what their ear and tone are like, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and then I have them sing something. This is usually the hard part but I do my best to put you at ease and remind you that I am your ally and here to help and guide you. You could sing something as easy as happy birthday. This is the beginning and we go from there teaching you technique, exercises and tearing apart and putting back together songs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started my professional training in 1972 studying voice. Five years later I apprenticed under my master vocal coach. I graduated in 1979 from USF in music theory with a minor in marketing and have been teaching for over 44 years. I have been a professional vocalist and studio vocalist for many years every type of music from classical to rock and everything else in between. I am a songwriter and have produced vocals for albums. I have toured the country in groups and bands and am in the San Francisco hall of fame.
