"I have studied Tai Chi Chuan on and off for about six years with five different instructors. Master Instructor Ron Pfeiffer is now the sixth teacher I have worked with and is probably the most experienced of all those I studied under.Ron's teaching style is very student oriented. He challenges and encourages you to learn as much as you can absorb in each class but also emphasizes knowing and NOT exceeding your physical skill level or limitations. He is very patient and always ready to answer questions. He will take the time to deomnstrate and further explain things that you are not sure about during class or afterward. In addition to his thorough teaching style, I deeply appreciate that he presents both the amazing health benefits that Tai Chi produces but also balances it with an understanding of its martial arts foundation. This tends to be a rarity in the majority of classes that have emerged over the past twenty plus years that totally focus on Tai Chi as a "gentle" health exercise. These easy dance-like approaches both emasculate the art and actually fail to produce the higher levels of health benefits that a more traditional and balanced training style offers. The school's primary class focuses on teaching the Yang Style 24 Forms short form exercise. However, it also offers opportunities to learn a variety of other forms/exercises from other Tai Chi styles such as Chen and Sun. The Tai Chi sword forms are also available to learn as well.In addition to these traditional forms, there are also specialized training opportunities in modified exercise sets using Tai Chi movements to address specific health issues. These forms (developed by world renown instructor Dr. Paul Lam, a medical doctor and long time Tai Chi practitioner) include special sets for improving overall health for those who suffer from arthritis, memory challenges, and osteoporosis.I have studied various martial arts on and off since 1970. If you are looking for a school and instructor that offers excellent training, encouragement, and improved health, I strongly recommend taking a look at International Tai Chi Alliance in Burlington."
