I researched several martial arts dojos, particularly from a childrens perspective since two of my kids (8 and 5 years old) wanted to learn self-defense techniques. Victory Martial Arts stood out as the leading dojo. They have a unique way of integrating the time-honored traditions of respect, self-discipline, and confidence, with the relevant combat techniques of MMA, best suited for modern-day defense situations. My children love going to class, are eager to practice at home, and embrace the mat chats at the end of each class, which focus on being a better person. Having full confidence that my kids were in good hands, we decided to make it a family affair. My wife and I also train at the dojo and the adult classes are phenomenal. They are suitable for adults (male and female) at different age/skill/fitness levels and goals. As a 39 year old male with limited experience in combat sports, I was a little intimidated my first day. That feeling dissipated within minutes. Everyone is helpful, welcoming, and there are no egos. For those with a strong competitive spirit, a competition team is available for advanced training. For women who are a little apprehensive, you will find comfort in the female only kickboxing class. I encourage you to utilize their 2-week free trial period. You will not be disappointed. They also offer affordable family rates, although you will quickly become a grappling dummy to your kids.
I experienced Judo instruction in high school for about 6 months. Then in college for over 1 year I studied Japanese Karate and many years later, 2 years of Shotokan Karate. At age 68, after experiencing various physical issues, I wanted to try an age appropriate martial arts to keep my reflexes beyond par and learn new skills. Unfortunately, some of the teachers I observed before choosing Peter Honigmann, forgot the need to tone things down for seniors, especially those with physical issues. Then I met Peter, whose style of teaching an amalgam of the best of the various styles, fit perfectly into my needs. He teaches situational personal defense so a student of any age and any ability can know what to if they encounter various dangerous situations, potential and actual. My fellow students and I enjoy the 1 hour class and look forward to it. It also says something when prior students renew.
I initially signed up for this as a way to get back into shape, however thanks to Don and his Assistant instructors its morphed into something much more amazing. I'm only just barely a month into private training and group classes and I've already done so many things I didn't think my body was capable of doing. Not only that it's also an amazingly fun time throughout each class and session. I'm currently signed up with a friend and honestly all week we look forward to coming in and training with don! He makes it fun, and easy to grasp. Everything is explained step by step. If there is something you feel insecure about he's sure to work with you on it. If there's a certain style you want to work on that day he's more then happy to help. It's not about making money like most places are these days. He wants you to feel safe outside of the classroom and wants you to be confident in each technique you learn. Even his students, young to adults, will go out of their way to help you nail a technique or combo, something they obviously learned from Don. I would recommend him for any person looking to feel safer, stronger, more confident and even healthier in their life.
Martial Arts classes at Victory Martial arts Orland Park has been a great experience for me. I take the Self Defense classes as well as the MMA classes. I sometimes get to see the kids karate class and they look like they are having fun but learning a lot. The location is not easy to find the first time, in a industrial strip. But this place is a gem in Orland Park.
I've taken Karate before and to be honest, Sensei Terrance teaches a system that's turned Sanuces 4 life. A whole body and mind experience that gives you realistic fighting scenarios and workout that made my previous personal trainers seem lazy.... water break anytime too.Learn to ask tho, lol. I learned the hard way
This is an excellent dojo for kids and adults alike. Garza Sensei is amazing with the little ones - never a boring moment, and they stay safely and energetically engaged the entire time. No time is wasted on hokey board-breaking and silly showmanship. Kids are taught self and opponent body control, how to fall and maneuver properly in space and around obstacles, and how to deal with multiple-opponent conflict in a very safe an controlled manner as compared to other, more strike-first-oriented arts (which, if put on practice, could get a parent sued!). With a no-contract, incredibly-reasonably-priced, and familial atmosphere, the students win every time! An extra bonus is the Japanese that the kids learn. Counting and many verbal interactions are done in Aikido's native language, and most children develop a proficiency within weeks! Truly an amazing place to practice. Highly recommended.
I highly recommend this gym because it is very important to me that the person who trains you knows what they are doing and coach Danny Aguirre, is MMA fighter currently active, with great experience and patience to teach. He is always attentive and corrects errors to improve the technique, every time I go to the gym I learn something new and put me in better shape, I'm 40 years old and I like to have people of all ages training with me, it's great for people of all ages beginners or advanced, here you can find Muay Thai and Grappling classes
