During an inside inspection, People's gas found 2 coupled flex pipes connected to our dryer and decided to disconnect our dryer and cap the connection (even though there was no gas leak). This left my spouse and I going to the laundromat for about a month and a half. I tried to hire a plumber through Westward, our condo management company, and that never panned out. so decided to look elsewhere for a solution. I signed up for Thumbtack and set up my project. Salvo with ISA Euro Pro Construction responded within an hour of my posting, we communicated about a time to come out, and they met me at my condo the next day. We'd received quotes to open the wall and that would have been a lot of time, materials + drywall and a lot of labor time. Salvo and Vito came up with a very nice and innovative solution to extend the pipe downward on the wall behind the washer and then installed a 5 foot flex pipe across to the dryer. The install looks great and I'm very happy with the final product. I am extremely satisfied with their solution, their professionalism, and the price; I highly recommend ISA Euro Pro Construction.

Jason did a great job installing electrical wiring in our attic so we can hang overhead lighting. He understood we didn’t want to do drywall repair and so he did all necessary installation from the attic without cutting into the wall. He also showed much flexibility in appointments and with an unfinished attic that proved to be a difficult space to work in.

Mario repaired a drywall area that was bulging (due to some work that was performed by some hardwood flooring professionals on our first floor some time ago) in the stairway leading to our lower level, did some drywall repair patchwork throughout the house, and painted our entire basement/family room area (a very large room)...all in less than 3 days, at a fair and reasonable price. Mario's workmanship was spectacular in all respects. Moreover, he is an absolute delight to have around the house...you will not find a nicer man or a better professional. I would use Mario again for any drywall and/or painting job of any size without any reservation whatsoever. PS...the 5 star rating is not high enough!

At first I hired Tom to move some plumbing in my kitchen remodel. He was on time, professional and very reasonably priced. He left our initial appointment just for an estimate with more work than he bargained for and each week I added more. In the end, he remodeled half of my house. From plumbing to electrical to tile to drywall, etc.. His crew is great and very respectful. My master bath looks amazing. Before he even finished my job I was referring him to family and friends. Do yourself a favor and hire him if you are reading this review. You won’t be disappointed.

Brandon helped repair a rotting railing on our deck. He worked diligently on the repair and cleaned up the entire work area when he was finished. The rotting wood extended beyond what I saw and beyond his original quote. Brandon never once said anything about it will cost more because.... he was going to stick to his quote and do what it took to get it done.

Krzysztof arrived early & knocked out this drywall/sanding & lighting installation project impressively. The job required finishing a project that was started by someone else months ago, which meant there were bound to be some mysteries as to how the previous worker had configured the electrical wiring in the bathroom as Krzysztof installed new lighting. However when faced with a puzzling situation he remained totally professional & with a bit of troubleshooting the lighting was installed cleanly, properly, efficiently and most importantly, safely. The drywall looks great (I'm a painter so I am painting it myself). He provided the ideal prep work which makes my job much easier & this room will look fantastic when all is said & done. I definitely recommend hiring "Kris" . Very professional, does solid work, very knowledgeable & price is very reasonable for this type of labor. Thumbs up

I hired BC to install drywall on a newly built wall when it became clear that my carpenter couldn't do it properly. BC saved the day. I was impressed with the speed and efficiency of his work and would hire again for my next project.

We initially contracted with Tom to remodel two bathrooms and install tile floor throughout our downstairs family room, hall and son's downstairs bedroom. Tom was doing such a great job so we began to trust his work the more we saw getting done. We then also asked him to remove wood paneling, install drywall, paint our entire lower level, add can lighting and install solid core doors throughout our house. We are thrilled with the finished product. He works faster alone then other contractors do with entire crews! Great work at a reasonable price.

Mr. Joel Christopher responded promptly to my request. He gave me a very good quote on the job. He came to my residence and completed the job in one day. He had to take out three doors and put in new ones. He was very professional during the project. Mr. Christopher also noticed a couple of minor repairs at my residence and completed them without charge. I highly recommend this contractor and I plan on utilizing his services in the near future. He is in the process of giving me a quote on another project. I had a great experience with Joel- he pleased my wife which is not an easy task.

Chris did a great job on our kitchen backsplash. We of course picked the most difficult tile and he still completed the job in the time frame he quoted and it looks amazing. If your looking for tile work you should definitely give him a call. Great work and our kitchen looks fantastic. Thanks Chris!

Ben and I linked up through Thumbtack for a job on my 100 year old 2-flat in Chicago. I'm acting as my own general contractor. I needed to have several tons of drywall removed (literally) on both the walls and ceiling in order to expose the brick and ceiling joists throughout (loft look). This was a huge job that would take about 10 days. That coupled with the fact that hiring any new contractor can be hit or miss and a bit stressful. I was immediately impressed by Ben from the onset! He's very knowledgeable, honest (I gave him keys to my place), hard working, and friendly! Also, he put down ram board and tented off the place to keep the construction zone and dust to a minimum. That was important because I was living there throughout this period. He also works at lightning speed, while being careful due to the building's age, and all within the budget I had intended. I highly recommend hiring Ben and will do so again for my next project early next year! Thanks - Brad

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
