Introduction
I do lots of planning and try to spend as much time as I can with my clients prior to their shoot. This goes double for wedding photography. I hand pick every image after the shoot, and spend lots of time in post-production to help create an overall style and feel that makes sense for the client and the conditions we were shooting in. I do not just take the pictures then hand over a DVD of the files. All good photographers will spend a great deal of time on the images after they are created, but the style they create and the detail put in is what sets some of them apart from the crowd. Constantly creating new images and pushing the limits of myself and my equipment is very challenging and rewarding, but if it weren't for the people that hire me, their families and friends, and all their reactions upon seeing the final product, I wouldn't enjoy what I do nearly as much. I can really love something I create/capture, but seeing/feeling people's emotions both during a shoot and when delivering the final product is the most rewarding part of what I do. I also have been know to get a little choked up at weddings sometimes (shhh, don't tell anyone).

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started taking photos as a hobby about 7 or 8 years ago with rather mediocre equipment. I sold some prints here and there but knew I had to improve my skills and my equipment to start working towards becoming a professional photographer. My music recording clients started asking me to shoot their shows, promo photos, album artwork, etc. Then friends started asking me to shoot their weddings. Then I had a friend open a restaurant and I fell in love with food photography. One client leads to the next, one style of shooting lends knowledge to other types, and I continue to grow both professionally and personally from my passion for photography.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Portraits, promo photos, live photos, and album art for bands in the Chicago area. I shoot roughly 8-10 weddings per year with a second shooter and sometimes a third. I love doing food photography as well. Commissioned art installations for businesses and residences has really started to take off for me in the last 12 months.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure (especially for wedding clients) that you communicate your needs to your photographer. Providing example photos that you love, describing your personality, meeting in person to discuss ideas, touring the venue/shooting location, are all good ways to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that you get exactly what you were hoping for, and then some.
