Introduction: From a young age Mahrou has found a natural connection to the camera. Having never been taught how to use her first film camera, this was a blessing in disguise. Learning by making mistakes, and then correcting, led to the formation of her unique photographic eye. She remembers the dark room being a place of discovery and magic. Even the unintentional aspects of film creation were beautiful. While also studying graphic design at the same time, she was led into the digital world. Digital photography/editing started to carve a new path for her. Combining the skills she learned in school, paired with real world experience, Mahrou found a true passion for black and white photography. Black and white allows an expression of more emotion. When we only see black and shades of gray this keeps us from finding distraction with color.
After graduating with a B.F.A in graphic design in 2012, life instead gave more opportunities with photography. This includes in-studio commercial photography, corporate events, concerts, sports, family portraits, and more.
