About
I'd like to think my eye for images is different. Plenty of photographers own the same gear, but for me it's more about how you view things. All my work is straight out of camera. No retouching. I want you to look back years later and say, ( that was me.) What's not to love? Meeting and working with pretty awesome people makes this all worth it.

I didn't have a good professional headshot for corporate stuff and social media. I had given up getting one done professionally because I tend to look stiff, stressed or crazed no matter what in all posed pictures. My favorite pics of me tend to be candid, so why spend money on an inevitable and epic fail? I had friends and family take shots. I tried selfies. Those were the worst of the posed/possessed shots. It just wasn't working. I decided to bite the bullet and shop around for photographer. If I couldn't hit the mark, at least the background would be more professional. It had to be inexpensive too since it was going to be bad. I posted a job on Thumbtack. Vega put in a bid. I went to his site, loved his work, but declined. Unlike with the others I had declined, I wrote a note explaining that I loved his work: he really gave his subjects character, but all shots on his site were of artists/actors and too dramatic or artsy for what I needed. Within a few minutes, he wrote back with samples of two corporate seatings from earlier in the day. (Plus his quote was great!) I cancelled a seating downtown and went with the man: Vega. For the first time, I got posed picture that I actually liked! Not only did I get great pics, but also, and most of all, I got life-altering advice, rather, photo-altering advice for life. He gave me one tip that totally explained why all of my posed photos looked so off, why the more I tried to smile/be more upbeat in them, the worse they got, and why the only shots of myself that I have ever liked have been candid. I used to think I just didn't like my image period. I especially hated my smile. I had no idea that I was doing it the wrong way. It's a smile, right? He didn't say I was doing it the wrong way. He's not like that. He just taught me how to actually smile for the camera, and through that tip, I had pained smiles. Later, I did research on headshot appeal and applied advice to "smile up to your eyes." The evidence from behavioral science studies showed that "a smile up to your eyes" is what appeals in pictures. Things got worse the more I applied that though. I interpreted it as smile wider, get the corners of your mouth to your eyes. That's not it, and it yields a crazed or stressed Joker smile on me. Vega's tip finally hit the science of people home. It's the eyes, not the smile. It's been life-altering too because I found out that the way I smile naturally probably doesn't look like the stressed smile I have had in photographs. I've become a lot less self-conscious about my smile out and about. Best of all was that the shoot was relaxed and real. I didn't have all of the pancake makeup that some have put on me for photos in order to "pop" more. The only makeup I had on that I don't normally wear was lipstick. Otherwise, it was just the eyeliner and eyebrow tint as per usual. I didn't do my hair. It was the same messy bun I clip in everyday when I put it up. When it was down, you could tell I probably needed a trim of the ends, but all flyaways and such is cleaned up in the end. Why have helmet head with a big, sprayed do when you have Photoshop?! Doing all of that stuff in the past never made me look better in photos anyway. Perhaps I was even more stiff because I could feel the makeup and was skeeved by the stickiness of my hair or pained by the pins holding it together. I'm telling everyone about him and promoting him a lot. It's organic, not planned, because of the great tips changed my photo life, and that is no small feat! I'm not as camera-shy anymore. It's changed my relationship to smiling generally- a boon for anyone. I also got great shots at a good price, which are the basics of the service everyone seeks. Everyone has been amazed by my photos too. They know me and what I normally look like in pictures. The photos are definitely me, but there are not my traditional photo persona. Rave reviews from all with people asking me where and who. Highly recommended.

I was beyond pleased with my experience with Jay. His wife who is also a photographer was there to assist him. They were both gracious, fun and patient! I honestly couldn't have been happier with the shoot I had with them, and needless to say the final images were flawless!!!!

Jay is a professional who knows his way around a camera. Every other photo I've had taken I had to remove my glasses for glare. Jay changed the lighting and everything came out perfect. He also took some great head shots. He makes you feel comfortable and is flexible.
