Michael Monar Photography

Introduction: We do fine art photojournalistic event and wedding photography, editorial photography, and portraiture. Michael Monar began his career from 1999 through 2002 under the tutelage of the world famous David LaChapelle Studio in New York. As studio and photo assistant, he was privy to the workings of the prestigious photography giant, and was learning and aiding in the production of images for major magazines including Vogue and Vanity Fair. He has also assisted in celebrity photoshoots and in the creation of advertising campaigns for major brands including Shiseido and Absolut. In 2002, after he completed his BFA in photography and art history at the Indiana University, he stretched his range by establishing his own gallery the Gallery Mornea in Evanston, IL. Monar designed and directed the construction of the space himself. With his gallery, Monar brought the sophistication of the art community to the North Shore. Even as he maintained his gallery, Monar continued to freelance for industry heavyweights such as the Annie Leibovitz Studio, Chicago Magazine and Boss Modeling Agency, amongst others. Today, he brings his rich experience and innovative spirit to each of his project under his own studio, Michael Monar Photography. He works closely with his clients so that he can customize each project to their needs. From concept to the end product, Monar designs and creates images and print materials to meet your every demand. Demonstrating a wide range of ability, Monar delivers a high level of artistic touch to each of his project. He is experienced in portraiture and can do a wide range of portrait photography from individual shoots to publicity stints. His work samples include those if prominent Chicago figures such as Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, Commissioner Joe Berrios, Howard Brookins as well as candidates Judge Thaddeus Wilson and Jay Paul Deratany. Monar regularly travels around the United States to meet the needs of his clients for his wedding photography services. He has an eye for the unique and is capable of capturing those fleeting moments that really make the day special. Aside from portraiture, Monar is also an expert in trade and industry shoots. His article "Denim and Diesel", regarding auctions in the Midwest, was recently published in Kee Magazine. His images and words brought life to the ordinary subject. Soon, Monar will be helping the University of Chicago Dept. of Oriental Studies document their momentous Hamoukar dig in Syria.
