FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My dad was a tile contractor and one of the first Armstrong retailers in the Chicago back in the early 50s. I worked with him summers to earn money before I could get a job legally. I liked what I was doing - the pay was good and those were the days when few went to college. I enjoy my trade and it has been good to my family.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Some of the more common calls I receive are for noisy running toilets, leaky faucets, re-grouting - re-caulking, safety bar installation, doors or walls teenagers punched through etc.. I do alot of calls for senior citizens that want to maintain their homes as their hubby had. They love the attention to detail I give, the conversation and it seems that once the work I came to do is done, they find a half dozen more things. Sometimes I'm at the same location for 2-3 days where I had originally came to fix a toilet.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do your homework. Ask for references and make sure to check them out. Don't let the dollar be your deciding factor - you have saved for a long time to get this work done and you don't want to have to spend twice. Make sure you use a professional. Too many unskilled people out of work these days posing as contractors - choose someone you feel comfortable with. No room for attitude.
