What was supposed to be a kitchen faucet install quickly proved to be much more due to the previous contractor we used. Jerry was a lifesaver and we will for sure call him in the future, we already have projects we want to scedule with him. So happy we found him and he made himself available so quickly!

He was very easy to get a hold of and communicate with. When he came by, he was very personable and knowledgeable. It explained the issue with our tile in our shower and kept the repairs minimal and for a reasonable price. Overall I could not have asked for better experience.

The team did an excellent job on our project. The building was completed in 1934 and the plaster repair and painting was well done and matched perfectly.

There aren't enough characters in this comments box to describe the partnership we came to love with John & Mario. Their work is exceptional, their attitudes make you want to make them part of your family. John brings a strong consultative approach to his work, so much more than a painter. John & Mario renovated our entire home, paint, baseboards, marble tiling, front door replacement. Every element of their work was completed flawlessly. One evening (yes evening, at 10pm) while they were still working, they realized the paint in our daughters looked different than during the day light, so they added another coat as he wasn't happy with the results! We seriously cannot recommend them enough, words will not suffice... We have found a partner in this realm for life. I will never use anyone else.

Working with Chad through our latest project in our home my husband and I were really pleased with Chads suggestions and how he gave us the options of the high and low cost of how to do the project for the best price. We had our countertops replaced a backsplash installed and two types of flooring with tile and laminate throughout the main level of our home. I would recommend them in the future for a great job!

Mike did the ceramic tile for our bathroom remodel. He actually squeezed us in on the weekend despite having a full schedule already. He was professional, showed up on time and did a great job on the tile.

I needed a master bathroom remodel - new flooring, replace cabinets, remount a large mirror, and install countertop and all plumbing fixtures. Working with Troy was easy because he listened to what needed to be done, then took charge and complete the job quickly. He is pleasant to work with, knowledgeable about his craft, and I would recommend him without hesitation.

I used Finely Finished for several projects as we completely overhauled our 16 year old house. Tim and his cohorts completed flooring, lighting, plumbing, deck work, and a series of odd jobs in an efficient, and cost effective manner.

Randy was a pleasure to work with. His price was competitive and the quality of his work was outstanding. Randy was punctual, thorough and helpful with respect to educating us on the ceramic floor tiling work he performed. We discovered, in talking with Randy, that he is a handyman, and we fully intend to give him a call with any of our future needs. Randy is a very personable, trustworthy contractor, something I often cannot say about others with whom I've interacted. He is a pleasure to talk with throughout the job, and he genuinely is not trying to overcharge you. He offers a reasonable and competitive price, and he follows it up with excellent work. I think anyone would find him to be the type of contractor with whom you'd always want to work.

Rollie said that he would meet at my house between 3:30 and 4pm to complete the estimate to re-tile my shower. He was there at 3:45. Gave the estimate and even went with me to Home Depot to help with selecting the correct material to satisfy my vision. He completed the shower tile work and I am more than satisfied. I will definitely call him on future jobs. He also, seemed to be cost conscious ensure we got the best product at the best price.

Josh installed my ceramic tile backsplash in my kitchen and was able to start the project the day after I contacted him as I was in a pinch to have it completed before Easter. He provided me an estimate of the cost prior to coming out and was very affordable. He was extremely professional in all his communications and was right on time. He texted me photos of his progress throughout the project and did an amazing job as the photos go to show! Josh really values customer service and followed up with me after the project was complete to make sure I was satisfied. I will definitely be using him again for my next project!

He just finished some laundry room work for us and we couldn't be happier. We've always done all of our own work before because we were seldom happy with the quality of "professionals" work, but crawling around isn't as easy as it used to be before two titanium knees. He took up old floor, laid cement board and porcelain tiles; moved plumbing fixtures; repaired and painted walls and ceiling; and hung a new door. Hard worker, very knowledgeable, and very competent and precise. Clean up was exceptional. Would use him again for any project.

Joe was amazing!! I was hesitant in using this website, but I was having a party and desperately needed the work done last minute. None of the companies I contacted had any availability. Now I am so glad they didn't!! Joe came on time and got the work done in a timely fashion. He is a really nice guy that you wouldn't mind bringing into your home. Most of all, he was very professional and had excellent craftsmanship. He installed tile in our bathroom and I couldn't be any happier! I will DEFINITELY call on him with any future projects!

Robert and his helper did he 2 tasks requested -- moved a large, heavy armoire from the 1st floor to the finished basement & installed a new shower rod. Important though was their 'extra' attention to the tasks - fixed/patched part of the armoire, fixed weather stripping on the front door & hauled a few metal 'trash' items from my garage. I am very happy with their service and would recommend them.

I selected MVS Construction to install over 1000 square feet of tile in the lower level of my home. MVS worked very hard to be sure my tile floor was perfect and I was completely happy with the job. The project also required floor trim installation and caulking. Great job MVS.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
