I am a certified teacher with over 17 years of experience. My goal is to help your student grow and succeed! I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a Master's of Education from UCLA. For each reading session for beginner readers, I will develop personalized lessons for your child based on their needs and goals for reading. My methods for teaching include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, sight words and
reading comprehension with decodable and leveled readers.
My ESL lessons are for adults who would like to improve their grammar, listening, speaking and reading skills. Adult students will be given a pre assessment to determine their English level and their learning path. Classes are remote. I offer group or one on one lessons. Hablo Español.
I also have a TESOL and TEFL certificate and have taught English as a Second Language to children ages 4-16 as well as adults for two years I have taught over 3,400 English classes

Ms. Candy is as sweet as her name! I love that she is patient and you can tell she gives it her all and really preps for these classes. My daughter can sometimes space out but she loves going to her classes and learning every single time. I saw a huge improvement in her grades shortly after picking up tutoring classes with Ms. Candy. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My 1:1 sessions are $50/hour. Clients pay on a per session basis. For the younger students I recommend shorter lessons of 30-45 minutes a few times a week. I am currently offering discounts on bundle classes.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I will set up a phone conference to learn more about the student's goals. Then, I will assess the student on basic reading/language skills. This baseline data will allow me target and plan for the students individual needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a K-8 Certified Elementary Teacher. I taught First and Second grade for 14 years, 12 of those years were at Desert Star Elementary School in Goodyear, Arizona. Currently, I am a Reading Teacher as well as an English as a Second Language teacher for children and adults. I am trained in the Science of Reading. In order to keep a valid certificate I participate in continuous professional development. I also hold a Bilingual Certificate to teach English Language Learners. I also have a TELF and TESOL Certification. Hablo Español.
