5 stars is an understatement for Di and if you are considering a resume writer I am here to tell you, there is no one better. What sets her apart from the entire resume writing industry is how much she cares about her clients. In a factory line industry that is resume writing, the personal attention, and passion Di has for her clients is generally only reserved for those who can afford it. She is an ambitious and talented woman who will not quit until you have the best resume of your career. You will feel like her only client and be amazed at her level of commitment to understand your needs in a resume. Forget templates and cookie cutter bullet points she will create something special for you. I wholeheartedly endorse her work and her service!

Keith Troemner helped convert my knowledge, experience, and education into a well presented resume. Our initial meeting was more than beneficial as I had many questions and was unaware of certain HR practices that may have prevented my resume from reaching hiring managers. I was very impressed with the Keith’s methodology, knowledge base, and experience. I appreciate his diligence, support, and kind follow up emails. I would recommend Keith to anyone in need of resume writing help.

Emily H was essential in revitalizing my resume. She took my cluttered and verbose resume that hadn’t been reformatted in many years, and created a sleek and professional resume that better advertises my skills and experience. In addition to eloquent writing and superb organizational skills, Emily H brought vast professional knowledge when it came to content and formatting. She was prompt and precise in our communications, and I can proudly send out my new resume as I apply for my next position. I would definitely recommend her to friends and colleagues. Thank you Emily H!

Kyra is an incredible asset in many ways. First and foremost, Kyra knows Chicago. She grew up in Chicago, she went to college in Chicago, and her connections are in Chicago. Kyra knows about so many different schools, companies, and organizations, and she can generally find someone to share their experience firsthand with you. Kyra has helped me apply for jobs from the ground up. She found specific empirical data that supports my skill set and helped me format it into a clean and readable resume. She helped me clearly discover not only my marketable skills, but also my passions. Kyra is also incredibly warm, compassionate, and responsive. She made my goals her goals and made me feel cared for through my entire hob application process. After helping me, she connected a friend of mine to the director of a non-profit. That friend was given a job with that organization about two weeks later. Kyra is amazing.

After completing the ACT prep course at Learning Ascent, my son got a composite score of 30. English: 32, Math: 33, Reading: 29, and Science: 26. He took the writing portion too, but we do not have results for that yet. Prior to tutoring, his score on a practice ACT test was a 26. The tutors Sean worked with helped him improve his scores. Overall, very happy with his results!

We hired Jack to write a script for a company advertisement. Because our company sells Afghan-grown saffron and donates some of the proceeds to grade schools in the Afghanistan, we had to walk a delicate line between a personal and emotional appeal. He did a wonderful job of conveying the complexity of our brand and breaking down the purpose of our company into the most important details. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
