I needed a handyman urgently to fix some terrible drywall repair work that was done by another company. They responded immediately to my request and were able to have someone at my house within 48 hours. They arrived on time at 7am in the morning, brought all of the necessary materials, explained exactly what they were going to do to fix the problem and worked very quickly. I will likely be going to Fixer for all of my handyman needs from now on. Highly recommended.

Keith did an outstanding job wiring my garage, removing unnecessary wiring through out my basement and installing a switch on my vanity. He is very professional. He also helped me trouble shoot plumbing and other items I had in question pertaining to my fist house and as soon as he completes my stove hook up I am going to give him 5 stars, recommend and use him in the future.

During an inside inspection, People's gas found 2 coupled flex pipes connected to our dryer and decided to disconnect our dryer and cap the connection (even though there was no gas leak). This left my spouse and I going to the laundromat for about a month and a half. I tried to hire a plumber through Westward, our condo management company, and that never panned out. so decided to look elsewhere for a solution. I signed up for Thumbtack and set up my project. Salvo with ISA Euro Pro Construction responded within an hour of my posting, we communicated about a time to come out, and they met me at my condo the next day. We'd received quotes to open the wall and that would have been a lot of time, materials + drywall and a lot of labor time. Salvo and Vito came up with a very nice and innovative solution to extend the pipe downward on the wall behind the washer and then installed a 5 foot flex pipe across to the dryer. The install looks great and I'm very happy with the final product. I am extremely satisfied with their solution, their professionalism, and the price; I highly recommend ISA Euro Pro Construction.

I needed my ceiling drywall repaired after damage from ice damning on my roof. Chano was always curteous and made the extra effort to keep things clean. He always explained the process and gave a fair quote for the work. He was always flexible with me on the time to come and do the work so as to work around my daughter's sleep schedule. I would definitely contact him again for the next job!

We have had Ron do several small projects in our home: install a bathroom vanity and faucets; patching a hole in our drywall. All projects were done professionally and at a very reasonable price. We have other projects that we will ask his help with in the future.

I requested to have three pieces of artwork hung through my apartment, as well as a wine rack/display. Everything looks great, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. I will definitely be reaching out to Attention 2 Detail Home Services in the future!

At first I hired Tom to move some plumbing in my kitchen remodel. He was on time, professional and very reasonably priced. He left our initial appointment just for an estimate with more work than he bargained for and each week I added more. In the end, he remodeled half of my house. From plumbing to electrical to tile to drywall, etc.. His crew is great and very respectful. My master bath looks amazing. Before he even finished my job I was referring him to family and friends. Do yourself a favor and hire him if you are reading this review. You won’t be disappointed.

I am very pleased to hire Optimum Carpentry for Tv mount, sound bar mount and patching the drywall for Nest thermostat install. Evan arrived promptly and is a very nice guy as he treats you with respect. I am very impressed with the quality of work he provided. The Tv mount and the sound bar are aligned to precision and enhanced the look of my family room. Evan really went above and beyond my expectations when he offered to help hooking a flat periscope from the back of the dryer to the outside vent so I can save a lot of space in the laundry room. I would highly recommend Optimum Carpentry to everyone.

Karol and his team went above and beyond! Our back deck was in bad shape and in major need of staining. Karol was not only quick with his response, he immediately set us up with a date for the work to be done and gave us a large selection of brands and colors to choose from so we could really make it ours. His team was so friendly and worked really hard to do the job right. They not only power washed our deck, but sanded and even repaired and replaced our broken lattice. The color also turned out great! We are so in love with the new look of or porch! Thank you so much to Karol and his team! Couldn't have asked for a better job! :)

Will and his team helped me out of a jam at the last minute! We had a shoddy drywall repair after an electrician cut holes in our ceiling for can lights installation. My daughter's first birthday party was just two days away, and Will changed his schedule around to fit us in and get it done before the party! Not to mention, the work was perfect and the rate was extremely reasonable. Can't beat that! I wouldn't hesitate to hire Will again or refer him to friends and family. Thanks Will!

These guys do exceptional work! They painted the rooms in our house and they did such a good job that we hired them to paint our kitchen. The cabinets are beautiful and look brand new. We will continue to hire this father/son duo to do many projects around our house including exterior paint, repairing drywall and odd jobs. They were punctual and very easy to work with. I highly recommend hiring the Chwalek team!

Mr. Baeza, reviewed the paint job I needed in and outside my home, gave me a quote, and a date when he could begin. Mr. Baeza, gave me a fair quote and was professional about calling me when he ran into a personal conflict about start date, but showed up on the rescheduled date as promised. He painted a closet, bathroom, patched up kitchen ceiling and soffit, and painted trim on the outside of our home. He brought all the paint, and was very good about using drop cloth, cleaning up when he finished. I would recommend Mr. Baeza.

Very professional work, applied drywall to a complicated situation involving an exposed wall with external piping. Per my request he created openings for certain access pipes but did this in an artful manner. Otis is a cheerful professional who completed the work promptly in a short period of time and left my condo without any debris or signs he was there, just a perfect wall. Very reasonable price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
