Cassidy Miller, Cellist

Music has always been a passion of mine, and I strive to instill that same joy in my students! I am available to teach online, and I also teach in-person at the student's home in areas around Naperville, IL. I have been teaching cello for 12 years in both Illinois and Minnesota. I have taught students in school ranging in age from 8-18, and I also have experience teaching adults. I am happy to create a customized teaching plan tailored to the student's needs or goals, and/or focus on audition preparation. I studied music performance at Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts under cellists of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I have a special interest in early music and historical performance practice, and currently own a Baroque cello and treble viol. Historical performance practice is performing music how it would have sounded when it was written (from what we know in treatises), including using instruments that were either made during that time period, or using modern instruments that have been adjusted to be as close to an original instrument as possible. I've attended Oberlin's Baroque Performance Institute and the Twin Cities Baroque Instrumental Program for both Baroque cello and viola da gamba, and have performed consort music on treble, bass, and tenor viol. I also work in Communications and Operations for the Lyra Baroque Orchestra based in Saint Paul, MN, which led to working with big names in the field of early music, such as Jacques Ogg (harpsichord), and Jaap ter Linden (Baroque cello). If there is any interest in early music, we could certainly incorporate this into lessons as well! There is much that can be learned from these treatises in performing Baroque music on modern cello, and we do often come across Baroque music - the most common being the Bach Cello Suites and the Vivaldi Sonatas.
