This was a great experience and customized for our family's needs. We learned a lot about basic self defense without having to commit to a martial arts program. Peter is an excellent and patient teacher.
My long lost family! About 3 years ago i walked into this Martial Arts Academy knowing nothing about the vast world of martial arts besides my wrestling background, and to this day I thank the Academy for not only teaching me how to defend my self properly. A lot of Martial arts academy will teach you how to defend yourself, but they will not teach you properly, and they do not take the time to personally go through a drill, or a move with you one on one to make sure that you are properly taught the way that Victory Mixed Martial Arts does. The trainers and even students really do care about each other and it is not only a workout atmosphere, but it is also a family atmosphere, which make it that much better. Victory has been with me since my freshman year in high school up to my senior year, and i can honestly say that it has helped me grow from a boy into a man. As a future United States Sailor i can honestly say that Victory has not only prepared me for self defense, but it has prepared me for life. Much appreciation to the family at Victory Mixed Martial Arts. Ussssss.
I always feel like Sensei Pat and her staff train the whole person, body and spirit. The aren’t just teaching karate, they are teaching respect, patience, appreciation, discipline, dedication, and so much more.
Mark Henry does great job of training and makes you feel comfortable !
Our 5 year old son has been taking Jiu Jitsu at Thresold Martial Arts for 5 months and is loving it! We first heard about Threshold when we saw a demonstration they did at Park Ridge Libray last summer. Now I am now reviewing my own positive experience. My husband is a police officer and urged me to sign up for a women's self defense class being offered at Threshold. I was hesitant because I work and have two young kids, but I thought it would be a good experience and it has far surpassed my expectations. The instructor is a Jiu Jitsu black belt and the owner of the gym who really cares about teaching and keeping people safe. I could go on and on, but bottom line is this is a really family friendly place - so much more than we expected. Even with my limited free time, I am making it a priority to continue my training. Thanks!!
Before we sent our daughter off to college, we wanted to be sure she had some basic self defense training. Michael came to our house and trained her specifically for the self defense skills a young woman might need. It was a very effective training and we were very pleased. Brent Albrecht, West Chicago, IL
Strive is a top notch facility with incredible instructors. The way they teach these kids stretches beyond Strive with lessons to be used at home and at school. The change in discipline and confidence in my children has been priceless. I'm grateful to Strive for being such a positive influence for my children.
My programs and have been recognized in several publications such as Black Belt Magazine, SWAT Magazine, amongst others. Dealing with reality based self defense requires a specific skillset and mindset...that becomes apparent in all of my programs.
Learn how to honestly express yourself through movement. I specialize in mixed martial arts, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and jeet kune do. I offer private and small group lessons.
I have been in fights before where I had to apply my martial arts background, and I have trained others to defend themselves. I also had excellent instructors that have trained under Erik Paulson, Sifu Dan Inosanto and Benny Urquidez. My father was an army ranger with extensive training in a traditional military style of Taekwondo and ITF style Taekwondo, as well as training in the Army Combatives program that Leonard Holifield created and experience as a bare knuckle boxer. My grandfather trained in Judo. I learned from them as I grew up. My uncle owned an MMA school where he taught various martial arts. I trained in Kali, Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Machado-Style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do and Combat Submission Wrestling under Darian Whittaker and Christen Ferl though I am not a black belt in any of them (or equivalent of black belt) but I do maintain at a minimum a basic if not intermediate to advanced training in all mentioned martial arts. I trained in WTF style Taekwondo under J.D. Beavens and attained a green belt in Japanese Jujutsu. I have been confirmed by 2nd dan Taekwondo Black Belts Samuel Fleming and S. Kelly as being properly trained in every technique in Taekwondo but I do not study the forms, thus I have no belt ranking. I have trained in Defendu, a WWII self-defense style practiced by the Allied Powers at the time and in Modern Army Combatives during my term of service in the U.S. Army, active duty. I was in a hand to hand situation where I had to defend myself using my experience. I also trained under Mr. Greg in full-contact Taekwondo/karate style kickboxing and trained in Ho Shin Sool under him. I have also trained in the Irish martial arts of Dornaloicht (bare knuckle boxing), Coiler Agus Eille (collar and elbow) and a basic understanding of Bataraicht (Shillelagh-style stick fighting). To my knowledge, I am one of only perhaps 10 people with understanding and training in collar and elbow wrestling.
It is extremely rare to find a Black Belt who is willing to work with others for personalized one on one training as I do. I have the luxury of working with so many other Black Belt instructors that I may spend more time one on one with students rather than only being able to see people in a class setting alone. I believe class settings are wonderful at helping you learn much material. However I realize that personal training sessions are the best way for others to learn self defense, or work out more effectively given many different factors in our lives.
I understand the profound relationship between martial arts and healing arts. In addition to having over 13 years of martial arts and yoga teaching and training experience, I hold a clinical doctorate in physical therapy and am a practicing physical therapist.
