I am more than satisfied with Christine, I cannot say enough good things about her. From our first consultation, I felt a huge sense of relief, and that I could stop worrying constantly. She was always truthful about the process, and I never felt like she was trying to pressure me or sell me something like other attorneys. Every aspect from beginning to end was top-notch customer service. She gives you her cell number and is always in contact. Ms. Thurston is a very kind and knowledgable individual, she really does care about her clients. She gave me a peace of mind, and I am very thankful for her. I have referred other people to her as well and they have all raved about her too.

I was hit hard from behind in an auto accident only one week prior to my 25th birthday, but my resulting back pain made me feel like I was twice that age. The resulting treatment resulted in some heavy expenses. Luckily for me, I had the pleasure of working with one of the best attorneys in the Chicagoland area. Michael was extremely helpful from the very beginning. The entire time we worked together, my health and well being was his number one concern, and I was always kept in the loop about any proceedings. I would recommend Mr. Shammas to anyone looking for a personal injury attorney.

David was our attorney for the closing on the sale of our house. There were several hiccups along the way, including at the 11th hour, but he was always very responsive, professional, and helpful. This was a stressful process and his calm manner was reassuring.

I have worked with other attorneys for other matters during my life. David was my best experience so far. He was honest, fair, and a great attorney. He did not nickel and dime me and was so easy to talk with. I actually enjoyed meeting with my attorney! David took care of a divorce for me and I am very satisfied with the results.

Martin is a very sharp, creative attorney who clearly cares about his clients. Perhaps his greatest quality is his candor: He doesn't over-promise, which I see many attorneys doing today. When a judge will ultimately decide, no one can guarantee what that decision will be. But Martin uses his deep experience to help set expectations around the most *likely* outcomes, while putting together sound strategies to try to get the *best* outcomes. This combination left me with a great feeling afterwards; I can only imagine how people feel when their attorneys keep telling them they will "fight for them, no matter what", only to be disappointed in the end when then get 70%, rather than 100%, of what they wanted. I highly recommend Martin; he will NOT let you down.

An attorney that definitely works for you. Bob is hands down worth every dollar charged. I was astonished by his meticulous work ethic, he works to make sure you are not overcharged even if you missed something trust me, Bob will find it. This is my second closing, my first attorney, I heard from for the first time at the closing. I heard from Bob at a minimum two times per week, sometimes just to let me know how things are processing. I highly recommended attorney Pinzur for you realtor or legal matters.

Mr. Nelson resolved my divorce in for 4 months after replacing my prior attorney. He and his associates are very knowledgeable understanding and aggressive at taking care of their client. I only wish that I had been referred to him 14 months sooner! Divorce is never easy but I would highly recommend this firm to assist with the process.

Kyle was very patient in understanding my concerns and guided me towards possible options to take even though those were not in his economic interest. I am very thankful to Kyle for sharing his experience on resolving similar issues. He understood hiring an attorney at this time was not in my best interest, he still spent time talking with me and ensuring my satisfaction. I look forward to working with Kyle in the future.

Wit Mr. Siwek on our side it was as pleasant a process as he could possibly make it answering countless questions at any time we had one, do yourself a favor and have this man help you as he has helped us.

This man is by far the best attorney Ive ever worked with; And that's really saying something lol. I have over a dozen arrests, three felony convictions for possession and disorderly conduct, plus a prior dui and domestic conviction. The dui of which I was shamefully still on supervision for when I was arrested by the Streamwood police dept for dui and possession of paraphenilia and a controlled substance. The overly-high priced hoity-toity attorneys didnt even want to take my dui and possession case as they viewed it as unwinnable. Not only did Ron charge me thousands less than those guys wanted, but he won this supposedly "unwinnable" case. He treated me with respect, he was polite to my family members, and he leveled with me as opposed to trying to sell me dreams. He worked his tail off for me, took the case to trial for no additional fee, and won the case with flying colors. Because of my backgroud, I was facing a maximum of 8 years in prison and my drivers license was to be revoked for 3 years. Not only am I a free man today with zero new convictions, but I also got my license back. Very few atttorneys could have pulled off what he did, let alone for the bargain price he gave me. I highly recommend this man to anyone that finds themselves in trouble and needing legal representation. Out of all the attorneys Ive worked with over the years, it would be foolish to ever hire anybody but him.

I've gotten into a lot of legal trouble and dealt with a lot of lawyers. Faraz is the most attentative and dedicated attorney I've had. Didn't need to chase him down to get a hold of him unlike other attorneys, he is very responsive. He would reach out to me to give me updates without me asking for any. He's a great trial lawyer as well, has gotten me out of plenty of trouble. His attention to detail and creative mindset has saved me plenty of money I would have had to dish out the courts. His honesty was much appreciated as well when it came time for me to make a decision. 5/5 would definitely recommend.

Attorney Omar Khan negotiates for the best outcome on his client’s behalf. He is very knowledgeable regarding your contractural rights. He helped me remove a negative credit report by re-negotiating my auto contract terms when I fell behind in payments.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
