Queer-friendly! Please read below about my approach and philosophy as a photographer: Although I’m happy to provide guidance and recommendations, I see a photoshoot as a highly collaborative creative endeavor between me and you. Come to me with your visions. We can make it come to life together! And if you don’t have a vision, that’s okay too - I’m here to help tease it out with you. If you “don’t like being photographed”, you’re not alone, and you’ve come to the right place. It’s vulnerable to be in front of the camera, where you’re asking me to ‘see’ you, and to capture you the way you want to be seen. I don’t take that job lightly. I aim to ease the tensions and connect with you so that you feel as natural and comfortable as possible. I’ve got a diverse portfolio - from business’ website promotional photos (clothing lines, self-care brands, welding, etc.), real estate properties, couples/engagement announcements, save-the-dates, surprise proposals, family holiday cards, small weddings, corporate parties, graduation shoots, and individual creative projects - I’m so grateful that my hobby takes me into such fun and unique spaces with people…try me! I work often with couples. By day, I’m a graduate-level couples counselor-in-training, so if you are a couple thinking of booking a shoot with me, I’ll probably prompt you with connective questions and make the experience feel like a date 🥰 Being in front of a camera can an emotional and anxiety provoking experience! I work hard to make you feel comfortable and genuine. My prices are intentionally more affordable than most. Your photographer fees should not cause you financial stress. A photographer’s job is easy: Capture the spirit that is palpable on a photoshoot day. I focus on natural light and natural emotion. The industry is saturated with fancy shooting that I believe adds extraneous fabricated emotion. I shoot with my camera, equipped with a few different lenses. I aim to capture the emotion that’s already present, and I don’t charge an exorbitant fee for that. Although I will ensure we capture all the posed photos with all combinations of people you want captured, I consider myself more of a documentary photographer, and it’s so beautiful! I work with Adobe Lightroom for post-production to make sure the final product is sharp and clean cut as intended, and only send the best ones, to avoid cluttering your inbox. I have the photos back to you within 2 weeks (or for weddings, 4-6 weeks during the height of wedding season). I've been a hobby photographer for about 8-9 years, and slowly started taking photos mostly for family and friends' special events. Jan. 2024 commenced my first year formalizing my practice with freelance work. I love being able to use my favorite hobby to bring joy to people, and so I'm here to work with all budgets to provide you with high quality photos of the special people and moments in your life.See more

Geoffrey K. says, "We had DJ Shahnam for our wedding and he did amazing! During our meetings before the wedding, we told him our biggest request was to keep the guests hyped and dancing at all times. We provided a variety of music that we liked to go off of and he killed it with his playlist. Everyone danced the entire night and had high energy. As a couple, we knew our families would have song requests so we asked if he can incorporate any requests and he did. We didn’t have an event planner and he helped us to stay on track. Definitely a smooth day that will be remembered forever! For anyone considering hiring a DJ for their wedding or any other event need to look no further. DJ Shahnam is your guy. Thanks again for all that you did!!"See more

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.
