- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was introduced to radio work in high school. Loved it. Later in life went back to school for broadcasting. The department head asked me to take over and run the radio stations "ROAD SHOW", which was essentially DJ'ing events on campus and then also taking the show to parties and events as a fundraiser for the program. This lead to me buying my own equipment. Then I was asked to be the college stations Program Director as well as the Music Director and the SUPERSHOW CONCERT Director. All because I was good with people, could read the room, showed leadership qualities and found music to be the best way to cheer most people up.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Please be careful. There are a few unprofessionals out there. They either undercharge because they are not quality and will prove it at your event. Or they will over charge and over promise just to under perform, also at your event. Make sure you are getting quality and they have some experience.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
One of the big questions is type of music. Here's why. Lets say you are a Rock/Pop person. Thats the music you want played and then all your family and friends are Country lovers. Who is dancing? You and.....? Think about having a variety of music available and letting the DJ feel the room. A good DJ will do just about anything to get people on the dance floor. Make sure your DJ has a variety of music. Also, if there is a song you don't ever want to hear ever again, make sure the DJ knows it. Most good DJs will let you make a DO NOT PLAY list. By the way, the country senario happened to me, but once we figured it out, the rest of the night was amazing!
