High School Math Tutoring (Grades 9-12)
I have been very impressed with Laila as my son's Algebra 2 math tutor. She is very conscientious and cares a great deal that my son is understanding the material and doing well. She took it upon herself to contact his teacher to review the class material and determine what is expected from the class. She has a very friendly personality and is extremely qualified and enthusiastic. She cares more than any tutor I've ever met. If my son understands the material for the week, she does not require a session, just advance notice. Very fair! She's been very flexible with us and has evening hours.Oct 27, 2016Verified
I had such a pleasure having Laila tutor my child for Algebra 2. She has so much energy and is very patient helping her students reach success in math. She graciously stays a couple minutes longer just to make sure the lesson is at a good stopping point. Laila's teaching style has drastically improved my daughters grades. I get so excited seeing a former NASA engineer make a difference for my child. I'm so glad we found her.Nov 2, 2016
I am a sophomore at Carmel High School enrolled in Geometry. As I began taking the class I noticed I was struggling with it and wanted to find a math tutor. My brother had Laila as a tutor last year and always talked about how awesome and helpful she was. So my mom called her and she was able to squeeze me in! I have a crazy schedule and Laila made time for me which meant a lot and really shows how much she values tutoring and helping her students. My goal was to get an A in the class and Laila helped me achieve that goal. I absolutely love working with Laila and always look forward to our sessions. I would 100% recommend Laila to absolutely anyone who is struggling in math because I can assure you that she will help you and make things clear for you to understand.Dec 17, 2017
I was struggling in math and was sad I was not reaching my full potential. My past tutors weren’t very good and just did my work for me. Laila dives deeper and makes sure you know the material inside and out so you feel prepared for the next class. My Dad found Laila on the Carmel tutor list and I’m glad he did. Laila is awesome and really cares about her students. She’s kind and also influences healthy eating which is awesome, as I want to be a dietitian when I get older. Some of my favorite healthy snacks were ones Laila was eating. I now get amazing grades because of Laila and enjoy math class because I go in prepared. I would 100% recommend Laila for someone else and anyone is lucky to have her as a tutor.Nov 18, 2017
I have always struggled with math and I knew that before even going into this year that I would need a tutor to help me along the way, this is exactly what Laila did for me. She had a different type of tutoring method, which I was unfamiliar with. During many of the sessions she would say "put your calculator away, you don't need it" ever since middle school I have learned to become very reliant on my calculator. For the final exam and standardized tests it's very common for most of the test to be no calculator. So thanks to Laila I was able to succeed in math. She set high goals, but she set them at a standard in which I could succeed. Definitely recommend for anyone. Thanks Laila!Dec 21, 2017
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My regular prices vary but I do require to have a consultation with my student in person and online before we can discuss next steps. My initial fee is lower so the student gets to know who I am and we get a chance to learn each other's personality. Once we realize we can work together we can go over my regular prices and weekly schedule.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?1. I do an initial consultation and go over the students work and areas of difficulty to ensure I know the subject 2. Then we review the students lesson plans 3. Go over a couple math examples slowly, breakdown the problems into sections to help the student dissect and gain a better understanding of the problem. 4. Finally I have the student workout the problem alone and I have them talk it through with me.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I'm an engineer. I got my Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Portland State. I worked for NASA Kennedy Space Center for 4 years. I have passed me Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and am now an entrepreneur.
