About
Every student can learn math—they just don't all learn it the same way.
I'm a licensed 6–12 mathematics educator currently teaching 6th-grade math at Harshman Middle School with Indianapolis Public Schools. Over the past 12 years, I've taught and tutored students with a wide range of abilities, from those who struggle with foundational concepts to students taking Calculus and looking for an extra challenge.
Before moving to Indianapolis to be closer to family, I spent 10 years teaching in Colorado, where I specialized in helping students who had lost confidence in math. I also tutored for more than 10 years through Varsity Tutors, maintaining an average 4.9-star rating, and taught College Algebra for a semester at Purdue University in West Lafayette.
What sets my tutoring apart is that I don't simply teach math—I teach students.
My approach is centered on the whole child. I take time to understand how each student learns, what motivates them, and what may be standing in the way of their success. Whether a student is frustrated, anxious about math, learning English, or working several grade levels ahead, I adapt my instruction to meet them where they are.
During our sessions, I ask students to explain their thinking rather than memorize procedures. This helps uncover misconceptions, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build the confidence they need to be successful long after our tutoring sessions end.
I enjoy working with students in grades 5–12 in subjects ranging from foundational math through Calculus, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus. I also have experience supporting English language learners and students in High Ability programs.
My goal is simple: I want students to leave each session understanding more than they did when they arrived—and believing they're capable of learning math.
I offer in-person tutoring throughout the Indianapolis area at libraries, coffee shops, or another mutually agreed-upon public location, as well as online sessions. References from parents and former students are available upon request, and I look forward to helping your student reach their goals.
