Angry Home Owner S.
Feb 25, 2014
This guy is NOT legit. Be aware - Its a scam.
Chuck Riddle agreed to install new wood flooring in our home. It was to be the entire first floor of the house, which is 980 square feet. He charged us $1500, to be paid in cash - $750 at the start, and $750 after the job was done. He guaranteed his work and promised a full refund if we were unsatisfied with the floors. The job included tearing up the old carpet and linoleum flooring, laying the new floors, and installing trim around the edges of the rooms. He never finished tearing up the old floors and actually began installing the wood floors right over the old floors in some areas. He left gaps in many places between the wood planks, so that you can actually see the baseboards under the flooring. He did not finish the job, leaving the entry, hallways, bathroom, and portions of all other rooms incomplete. There are noticeable places where the floors are not level. Some boards actually move up and down when you step on them. On two occasions he demanded more money to finish the job, refusing to finish the work unless we gave him more money. I first gave him $200 cash (on top of the $750 deposit). Then, I wrote him a check for $375. In the end, we paid Chuck Riddle $1325. On the move in day, we found a house that looked like a construction zone. There are dangerous nails sticking up through floor boards, large portions of rooms with incomplete flooring, and many blemishes where he damaged the new wood floors. The flooring he did lay is uneven and poorly installed. He even left the toilet for the downstairs bathroom in the garage, making the restroom unusable. The garage is full of trash and debris from the old floors, and we can't fit our cars in the garage. He took his tools and left, and now refuses to answer phone calls or return messages. I have requested a refund many times, but he ignores my calls and messages. We now have to pay a flooring company thousands of dollars to remove the flooring, finish the demolition of the old flooring, and put down new wood floors and trim.
