Hi - I'm Dee.
I reinvented myself when I returned to school and obtained my Interior Design Degree.
While in school, I joined ASID (American Society of Interior Design). I continue my association as an active member and Chair of the South Suburban/NWI PEER Group.
Our initial inquiry is through Thumbtack. After the initial contact, a time will be scheduled for a discovery call. In the discovery call, we will discuss your project in detail. After the discovery call, a site visit is scheduled. I will provide my professional opinion, knowledge, and experience to your project. I am also able to provide computer drawings, project planning and scheduling.
The most rewarding part of my job is when a client enters their home and their expression of satisfaction and delight says it all.

I admired how Dee just took over and showed me her talents. Every simple suggestion turned out fantastic. We shopped, decorated, talked, and laughed. I would recommend Dee Nickels over and over again. Delightful person!

A friend of mine had her living room done by Panache Interiors,and I was so impressed I contacted Dee to see if my great room could be changed into something more interesting. I am so pleased with the results, my new color scheme, and layout makes me happy every time I walk into the room. My wish to have this space somehow elegant but casual was realized.

I am building a new home and Dee was extremely helpful in helping me put cabinet colors with the right flooring, even pointing out better options that I had not originally thought of. She knows the difference between tile and porcelain, which I did not! lol So, I learned some things from Dee too.
Dee is very professional and very knowledgeable about all aspects of design and building. I would definitely use her again!

My kitchen needed to be remodeled because it was so out of date, etc. I contacted Ms. Nickels and she came out to my house to see the space we had to work with. She then accompanied me to a nearby store where I had perused their kitchen's area. Ms. Nickels was very helpful in telling me the plus and minuses of cabinets, placement, installation issues, etc. She spoke with my handyman at various times during installation and worked well with him. She was knowledgeable, a good listener taking my concerns, etc seriously. The Kitchen Turned Out great and I have called her as I made some small changes in some rooms, etc. I would recomend her to others without any reservation.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My fees are based on an hourly rate. Our initial phone conversation is the discovery time. We will talk about your project. I will ask questions about what you are needing for your home. When an appointment is scheduled, I will visit you and your home for a meet and greet. I suggest that the client have a budget in mind about how much they want to invest in their project. Within the budget, the designer fee needs to be considered.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The initial interview with a client is important. I have an opportunity to listen to the client and the client has an opportunity to interview me. I find a project moves along smoothly with a good working relationship between client and designer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Interior Design from Prairie State College. As a designer, I am required to maintain Continuing Education Units (CEU's) requirements to maintain my ASID (American Society of Interior Design) accreditation. Many vendors offer informational seminars with CEU's which enables me to continually learn about new products and stay updated. I am also involved with ASID Peer Groups from the western, northern and southern suburbs of Chicago. Networking with my peers provides me with a wealth of resources.
