How did you get started doing this type of work?
Previously, I worked in the Criminal Justice field, first as a Prison Guard, then a Probation Officer, and a Director of a private work release facility. I was repeatedly in contact with sex offenders and witnessed their path of destruction. In order to learn to prevent future abuse, I obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work and provided treatment to sex offenders, their families, and victims of sexual abuse.
Following the birth of my children, I decided to stay at home, but I missed being able to help others. I volunteered at an advocacy center for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. However, after earning my black belt in karate, I realized that I could "marry" all of my past experience and my new endevors to assist victims, and hopefully help prevent future victimizations by teaching women how to protect themselves.
