I purchased the six week training package with Vicky. On the initial meet and greet I could already see that she had a good rapport with my dog. After the initial meeting we set up a regular date/time and Vicky was always vigilant on sending a reminder text the day before to confirm our appointment and she always arrive on time every time. Vicky does an excellent job in guiding you to train your animal, she provides both positive feedback on the things that you and your animal are doing right and what needs to be corrected. She was able to successfully correct the main issue that I had with my dog which was pulling on the leash.

Debbie provided outstanding care of my cats, and did all she said, sending video clips and photos and text updates on how they were. She was caring and attentive, and they responded threefold. I've not ever had such a worry-free time with a professional pet sitter and will most definitely work with her company again in the future.

We've been using Petstigious Pets dog walking services since the end of December and we couldn't be happier. The company owners met with us on short notice and were able to accommodate our requests. We are very happy with the exceptional level of professionalism and near immediate responsiveness via text messages. They even send daily report cards with a photo or two of your animal. We highly recommend this company.

I have a Labradoodle and two cats. Sarah has groomed my dog and cut my cats' nails for about the past 21/2 years. She has done an outstanding job. Prior to using Sarah, my dog was very agitated when I brought her to be groomed and was extremely upset when I would pick her up. Additionally, I was never very happy with how the dog looked. In contrast, my dog is always thrilled to see Sarah and is calm and happy when I pick her up. She also looks fabulous. Since Sarah has been grooming my dog, people have stopped me on the street to comment on how beautiful my dog is! Sarah is equally professional and gentle with my cats. It is very obvious that Sarah is a very talented groomer. Most importantly however, is that she clearly is an animal lover and advocate. She genuinely enjoys her time with each pet and "sees" them. She does not rush her work. I enthusiastically recommended Sarah.

Dee, the owner of Romes Paws, is AMAZING. A neighbor recommended her when we had a very last-minute need for a pet sitter. Within an hour, I had confirmation from her and a VERY reasonable rate. She spent the whole morning with our puppy and had pictures and a full update to share when I got home. Our puppy ended up getting sick a few days later and needing intensive veterinary care. Dee is a vet tech so we contacted her immediately and she gave plenty of advice and offered to help us provide care for him when he is ready to come home. She is a true animal lover and is so responsive to her clients. Other services I contacted only offered walks, not day-time pet setting. They also required a very formal home visit before they would work with us. By contrast, Dee was really flexible and handled everything quickly over email. I can recommend Romes Paws wholeheartedly to everyone!

I have been using daily dog-walking services with Christine's Pets for 8 months now. The walkers are reliable, and very caring for my little aging dog who has some health issues. They communicate daily, and point out any changes that they observe in my pet. I miss my dog when I go to work, but I have peace of mind in knowing that his walkers give him some TLC each day! :)

Fantastic! Hattie really cared for my cat during his lion's cut - she was very patient with my quite anxious animal and handled herself professionally even when he had a little freakout due to the bath! Best lion's cut my cat has received!

I have a Labradoodle and two cats. Sarah's grooming of the dog has been a showstopper. People often stop us on the street to admire the dog. Sarah is the consummate perfectionist. She never cuts corners and is very attentive to your wishes. On top of that, she is absolutely wonderful with the animals. She is truly an animal lover and advocate. My dog loves to see her and is always in a good mood after being groomed. This has definitely not been the case with other groomers. Sarah does a wonderful job trimming my cats' nails, as well. I highly recommend Sarah.

they have done both midday walks and in-home vacation care/overnights for my animals and things have always gone exceptionally well. And that isn't easy because i have five animals, most of them on meds (including 2x/day insulin shots). Karen and Michelle are both dedicated animal lovers and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Gives me great comfort to know they have our backs!

We had to go out of town and were stressing over leaving our babies. We have 2 dogs 3 cats and a water dragon. Nikki went above and beyond of what we asked her to do for a babies, we were very impressed with her professionalism. She walked our dogs daily, fed them bathed them and trimmed their nails. Our 3 kitties got a lot of love nails trimmed and their boxes cleaned. The water dragon got fed and let out to roam every day, plus his cage cleaned. I would highly recommend Nikki to everyone I know. If you are looking for a professional, reliable, caring Animal lover, Nikki is your GAL.. Your pets needs will always come first!!

He really went above and beyond when we didn't have a spare set of keys and he offered to make a copy for us. All in all, clear animal lovers and also a very well run business. Walks N Love is a loving, responsible pet sitting/walking company that I would highly recommend. We used their services for at least 5 years and they truly made a difference in our beloved 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier's life. They gave our "JR" daily doses of the mess he needed & massaged him when walking was difficult due to Arthritis. JR was truly our child & at the end of his life was in awesome hands during the day while we worked. Walks N Love truly made a difference in our dog's life!

Kim is very professional and sweet, she took care of my kitty cat and chinchilla while we were away for our wedding. I have an incredibly needy cat but he wasn't super desperate when we got home so I could tell he had enough attention. We then used Kim to check on the house and chinchilla while away for our honeymoon. I usually worry a lot about my animals and can get a bit anxious but she was very understanding and I felt relieved to have her with them. I left my cat at a friend's house for our honeymoon but I think if we go on another long trip I will just ask Kim to come back. She has even brought in packages for us and made an extra stop to turn off my ridiculous house alarm so the beeping noise wouldn't bother my chinchilla. Highly recommend. (Oh and she is one of the only pet sitters we have had who isn't scared of the chinchilla. I can tell she is a real animal lover)

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
