How much does it cost to install a light fixture?

If you want to have a light fixture installed, the cost will likely be between $90 to $250 per fixture. The actual cost will depend on a number of factors, the first of which is the professional you hire. To find out how much you can expect to spend, contact several lighting installation professionals near you and ask for free estimates.

The type of fixture can also impact costs. For example, traditional ceiling mounts are usually less expensive than recessed lighting. The number of lights that need to be installed is another cost factor.

Do you need an electrician to install a light fixture?

Whether you need to hire a lighting installation service or an electrician to install a light fixture depends on the type of fixture, the complexity of your electrical wiring, and most of all, your experience and comfort. Depending on the location of the fixture, you may need to run wiring and install switches. If you don’t have any previous electrical experience, it’s quite possible to make a mistake that could create a hazard. However, if you know what you’re doing, installing a light fixture is fairly trivial.

Do light fixtures need to be grounded?

Grounding your light fixtures is important to protecting your household from dangerous shocks. If you’re unsure if your light fixture can be grounded, or if you don’t know how to ground it yourself, contact a lighting electrician near you

How do you install a ceiling light fixture?

Some of the steps involved in installing a ceiling or hanging light fixture including removing the old fixture, inspecting your wiring, turning off the power at the breaker box, connecting wires and attaching the fixture. Some of the tools, equipment and materials you might need include a step ladder, screwdrivers, screws, wire strippers, wire connectors, a power drill, pliers or more.

If you don’t have the necessary equipment or don’t feel comfortable installing your ceiling light on your own, contact a lighting professional instead.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with an electrician during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up an appointment or consultation with an electrician during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensure that you are performing as much of the process digitally as possible. The best way to begin is by conducting an online search for local electricians. Ask if they can perform consultations over a phone or video call to comply with social distancing mandates. You should also discuss a strategy for how to complete the project during social distancing or whether the project should be completed once the pandemic has ended.

Do electricians do free estimates?

Yes, they do. Whether you’re looking for new electrical work or wiring repair, the electrician should offer you a free estimate.

Go online to find the best electricians near you. After researching and finding a few pros who seem qualified for your job, go ahead and request a quote to find out how much those electricians will charge you.

How do I hire an electrician?

Go online to find a list of the best electricians in your area. View each individual electrician’s profile and learn more about their services and expertise. Then, read reviews from satisfied customers as well as any issues they may have encountered. This will help you find one with the right experience to work safely in your home.

You should also spend some time researching what qualifications and credentials they have. You might find information about their license on their profile, or you might need to check your local and state government’s website to verify their license.

Once you’ve done a bit of research, ask to receive free estimates from several electricians in your area. Ultimately, hire the most qualified electrician who can complete your project at a reasonable price.

Is it worth it to hire an electrician?

Yes, it's usually worth it to hire an electrician instead of doing the work yourself.

Electrical work can be very dangerous. The pros spend many years working and studying before they become licensed and certified. That knowledge and training can help them work safely and perform the job without harming themselves or your home.

Even a small wiring repair job can be unsafe if not done correctly. Hiring someone that has specialized training on how to do each specific job is the safest choice.

What questions should I ask an electrician?

Here are a few questions you should ask any electrician you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you licensed or certified? A professional electrician should have this information ready and up to date.
  • Do you have any references? Ask for references to learn about their work history from previous customers. You may be able to look online at reviews, but it’s also good to speak to someone to find out their experience with this electrician.
  • What types of services do you offer? Whether you need repairs or installation services, make sure the electrician can perform the work you need.
  • How long will the job take? This will help you set expectations and rearrange your schedule (if needed).
  • Can you send me free estimates? Request a job quote or estimate. This will help with comparing different electricians. The numbers may vary, but be sure to factor in the experience of each person, as well as the scope of electrical work you’re asking about.

How can I find out if an electrician is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Guidelines are available from both local and federal government agencies to clarify which services qualify as essential during the COVID-19 pandemic. To determine whether an electrician is considered an essential service provider in your area, check your city or state’s government websites.

For federal guidelines, consult CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 page, which outlines 16 critical infrastructure sectors. But not that some, not all, jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Would HIGHLY recommend!! Highly competitive rates and service/quality second to none. Submitted a request on Monday and they installed my recessed lighting on Thursday. Several others said there would be multiple holes & patchwork required but they installed without a single bit of follow-up work required - even vacuumed and moved back my furniture....already discussing future projects to bring them back! Honest and trustworthy.

I was looking forward to install recess lights in 9 locations. All the estimates were thru the roof. He did provided me a competitive rate including material so I don't have to get materials. They arrived a little late than I was expecting. But managed to pull thru the Job. Started with 2 person and later 2 more joined. (It was a busy house with crew of 4) They took all input from us in all rooms on light placements and even showed us multiple options. They accommodated the light color are per the requirement. (Bright light Vs Yellow light) and showed me the process if I may want to change in future. It was nice to see them cleaning after themselves to the extent the could. No complaints here. They patched the extral holes in which was required to pull cable. Mudded the wall and I could not be happier without come. (As some quotations I received don't do that) I can definitely recommend them as 1 stop shop for all electrical requirements. Recess lights has transformed the house made it much brighter and looked nicer.

John installed new lights throughout my house and things couldn’t have gone more perfect. He came out to quote the jobs and let me know what he would provide and what I needed to get. When the day came to start the project, he was on time and worked throughout the day to complete the projects. The projects included recessed lighting, a new light over dining room table and swapping out multiple fixtures. He communicated throughout and even gave recommendations from his experience. I highly recommend working with John on any of your electrical projects!

Alex did excellent work to install 20 recessed lights, a tv wall mount including a wall plug and couple of ceiling fans where there was no switches or prewires, he worked late to complete everything on time and helped to paint the wall as well. By end of day it was looking perfect with no sign of drywall work. He was prompt to respond for messages and very honest with price. Would surely recommend him

I greatly appreciate his verbal commitment that was followed by action. He was very responsive and transparent with pricing throughout the process. Unlike a lot of Electricians I got quotes from, Wadi was extremely reasonable in pricing and him and his teams work was immaculate. My husband who is extremely particular had 0 complaints about the quality of work and the team working. Wadi Electric installed 40 recess lights in our home, in one day. They worked diligently from 9AM-8PM, cleaned up after themselves and transformed our house. I would 100000% recommend them to family and friends and they will be my go to for any future electric projects.

GM Electricals installed six recess lights in our family room of the ground floor. He did an outstanding job, brought all materials and tool necessary to do this job. He made the minimum dry wall holes as he had special tools to drill into beams. He completed the job on time and cleaned the place to original position. Especially he took time to putty the dry wall cuts and finished with the matching paint we provided at no additional charge. He also replaced a ceiling fan that was out of order with a new one during the same visit. GM charges are very reasonable and we are pleased to recommend his electrical service to any one wants a professional job with fair and responsible charges.
