Carlos was very professional and he was also true to his word. Thank appreciated his flexibility and willingness to tackle my drywall project and exercise care throughout the repair of two ceiling holes created when I had an old light fixture replaced by an electrician.

I found Jacob's command and craftsmanship very impressive, coupled with his warm and friendly dispositon. Having a Bosch dishwasher, he understood every nuance precisely during the course of the repair process--and disclosed that information upfront, which made my decision-process to hire him much easier. People can feign their scope and expertise in the repair field, however, Jordan delivers with aplomb and gravitas. I will keep him in my rolodex for any future repairs I may need. Trust and compentancy are key components when you need to make an informed choice, and he posses both. Moreover, he was prompt in returning my call and showing up at my property to perform the work.

Rob is a true professional and did great work for me. I hired Rob to replace the weather stripping on the front door and hang a shelf. While installing the weather stripping, Rob noticed that what I bought was incorrect and he went to Home Depot to find the right piece himself. When he came back, we realized that the door is somewhat specialty and none of the standard door sweeps will fit. Rob did his best to repair the old door sweep until I can get a true replacement. Rob's truly demonstrated his professionalism throughout the entire process from setting up the appointment to being dedicated to finishing the job to my satisfaction. I will look to Rob in the future for other household maintenance.

Lassaad replaced a new range hood for my rental property. He was very responsive to all my inquiries from beginning. My tenant was able to schedule an appointment with him the very next day, and they are happy with the work done. The final cost was exactly as the quote, so no surprises. It was a very pleasant experience. Thank you!!!

Our AC was not working. We reached out to Greg and he was able to come assess the problem within just a couple of hours of our call. He was very knowledgable and explained the issue and what he was doing to correct it . Pricing was also very reasonable and towards the lower end of the range I reviewed online for the specific service he did. We will definitely use him again for any issues.

I posted a job on Thumbtack to fix our (seemingly) broken garbage disposal. I had several quotes ranging from $97-225, but Douglas contacted me and said to call him, and he'd walk me through it. Sure enough, I called him, he walked me through the repair, I bought the wrench I needed for $5 at the hardware store, and it worked! Thanks for saving me at least $100, Douglas. Now I know how to do this repair myself, and I know exactly who I'll call for all my future plumbing needs :-)

About

People always want to cut corners and just throw something up. I don't like doing things that way. Take just a little more time to make something right.

I have retained Bill Prehn, Owner, Wings Property Services, for several home repair and maintenance projects over the past several years. Bill is very meticulous with his work and takes great pride in ensuring the customer’ satisfaction. Bill’s work ethic is of the highest standard and that is always reflected in his work product. He assesses the project’ requirements carefully and provides a thorough overview of what it will entail - along with an estimated time allotment for completion. His rates are competitively priced; his hourly rate as well as his project-based rate. I have never had any concerns having Bill work in my home when I am not there – which I can’t say of the overwhelming majority of contractors I’ve hired in the past. I wholeheartedly recommend Bill Prehn for your home repair and maintenance projects.

The technician arrived and went right to work, he worked diligently until the job was done. He answered my questions and was professional. My disappointment was that the type of repair that I had was not a warranted repair. Otherwise, it was a fuss-free experience. I would use them again.

Quick response and same evening service coupled with friendly expertise puts this service on my call back list. Parts marked up a little and tech does not carry parts on truck, so expect two service calls. To get exact quote ask estimated labor cost. Total cost was in range and actually less than expected.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
