Mark provided a painter with 24 hour notice to fill-in and paint 33 individual doors for my team. He was professional on the phone, easy to work with and his crew that arrived to do the work took care of business. While our process experienced a hiccup with a shortage of material, we couldn't ask for a faster and more responsive individual to work with. Great contact!

Sam came over the same morning I contacted him, the job was to repair the metal entry door to my business. The door had some damage that left it unable to close and lock. Sam fixed the problem and also repaired the metal railing of the stairs leading to the door. Sam went beyond what was asked for and did excellent work. I would refer him to anyone that need welding services.

Roy installed a traverse rod over my patio door. He did an excellent job. I thought the estimate quoted was fair but he charged less because of the amount of time he spent and his inability, through no fault of his own, to set up the rod to open to the right. It appears the instructions to do this were not included with the kit. Thanks again Roy.

Rick showed up on time, and was able to repair the sliding glass door lock which saved us $$ over having to buy a new lock. Rick is friendly and knowledgeable and we would definitely call him again.

As a first user of Thumbtack I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Harvey showed up to provide an estimate for a small screen door repair or replace project. When he arrived he was very nice and very professional. After a few minutes of assessing my door he quickly realized that it was a small repair job that probably would only take a few moments. Harvey took it upon himself to go ahead and just fix my door. The whole consultation and repair took less than 30 minutes. He was so kind and generous with his Services I would recommend him to anyone and I definitely intend to reach out to him again for the next project that comes around.

Jim has done 4 projects for me so far. He installed a new storm door, painted a large pantry, put latches on my cabinets and trimmed out a closet. We are doing a new patio door and tiling a room next week. He is doing a great job! Would recommend him to anyone.

We had a great experience with Elements Chimney. They cleaned and inspected for us. We hadn't had an official inspection since we moved into the house, so we wanted to get it done before he put a fire in our fireplace. They arrived at the time they said they would get here, and called before coming to the door as I asked so that I could put the dogs outside. He seemed very knowledgeable and he was very polite; put on booties every time he entered our home. We will definitely recommend Elements Chimney to anyone who asks.

Ken was extremely professional and respectful. He arrived on time and was ready to take care of my to-do list which consisted of: fixing 2 toilets, cured a leaky faucet in my kitchen, adjusted a glass shower door and diagnosed a shower head that wasn't spraying properly. Ken will come back to finish repairing the showerhead, install a bedroom light fixture and paint my family room and 2 stairwell walls. I highly recommend him.

To this day we are pleased with the work provided by S&W Construction after our church fire. We get lots of compliments from visitors to this day. After a devastating church fire, S&W renovated and remodeled our church from the floor to the ceiling. The sanctuary ceiling was destroyed by the fire department as they put out the fire so it was very cold for them to work but they worked in the cold winter months non stop. They fixed it so we were able to have church services in the renovated and remodeled lower level while they worked or the two upper levels. They added two restrooms and an office. Restored our sanctuary, balcony, replaced windows and doors, carpeting, painting, new furnaces, new lighting, pews, new choir stand, new pulpit, kitchen and setup and installed appliances, etc. We later hired S&W Construction for sidewalk replacement and driveway reproach replacement. We will hire them again.

Manny professionally and creatively finished some tricky trim work around some basement windows, a ledge shelf, door and fence repair. The finished work looks great and we appreciate his expert attention to detail. He made the time to do this work over the weekend which worked out great for both of our schedules. Manny's a flexible, professional, talented contractor and we look forward to working with him on other projects around our home in the future.

I had a ceiling that was damaged and stained from a roof leak. It was a mess!! Coop & Sons came and did the job efficiently. When checking the ceiling and doing the work he brought to my attention a crack running across my wall over a door. I told him it wasn't a big deal. He said he would fix it and did. He also did extra work in my hallway that I was putting off. The place looks like new! I had no idea what I was really getting for the price. He kept an organized area and left the place extra clean. Amazing price, amazing quality, extra work, and very friendly. He will be doing all my other work in the spring. Thanks Coop!!

I originally contacted John to repair my fence gates, which he did a fantastic job. I also asked him to replace my front door that same day, not a simple job as it turns out. John took the time to make it look and operate correctly. I will definitely be using him in the future. Thank you!

An old door with two side windows was removed and replaced with a new French door promptly and professionally. It was a job nobody else would take due to the need to widen the opening of the exterior wall. Thank you for a job well done!

I worked with Dennis on a project that involved replacing stems and knobs on a shower. Dennis was responsive, came out the same day, and completed the job satisfactorily. The job was priced fairly and I look forward to working with Dennis again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
