Robert and Jennifer were wonderful to work with. Robert was prompt and communicated with me what to expect throughout the repair process. I received a clear written quote and the work was performed at a price we both agreed upon. He completed my job on schedule and took pictures of the completed water heater installation. I received an easy to pay online invoice which was very convenient for me. I will definitely use their service again and recommend them to friends in the area.

My tankless water heater is over 10 years old and stopped working. It wasn't initially installed right. Mr. Cochrane installed my water heater correctly so he could descale it. The water heater hasn't been serviced in over 10 years because it wasn't installed correctly which actually caused the water heater to break and buying a new one wasn't in my price range. He took apart my old tankless water heater, piece by piece, cleaned it and put it back together. He descaled it and got it WORKING! He is a miracle worker for tankless water heaters! He did an awesome and VERY CLEAN job! Definitely recommend him to everyone. I will continue to do business with him. He definitely made my tankless water heater "Flo Right".

We will definitely be using Global Plumbing for our future plumbing needs! Quick response to the RFP, was very thorough on the walk-through taking time to ensure he understood the SOW - even made a suggestion regarding the placement of the on-demand H2O heater which saved material & time. Great communication throughout. Provided an estimate quickly and contacted me promptly once I approved it. Was able to schedule and complete the project quickly. With multiple projects ongoing I particularly appreciated their workspace being kept neat throughout the day and that they made it a point to meticulously clean up before leaving. Just can't say enough good things about both Phillip and his wife. No doubt we will use Global Plumbing for our future plumbing projects.

The owner, Brant, was willing to work to be sure that I was satisfied with the water heater that he installed. The first one was faulty. He went back and got the second one and made sure that it was working properly even working late on a Saturday, Valentine's Day.

I hired William to replace my water heater which he did skillfully in one afternoon. So I hired him again to replace the galvanized pipe in my older house. He and his assistant were attentive to details I had not thought of and, again, the work was high quality so much so that I then hired him to paint and repair the exterior of my house. My house is now a showplace on the block with many problems resolved or removed. It is my pleasure to highly endorse William Huguet. His work for me has been outstanding!!! I will hire him again.

I needed to replace my water heater for a newer model and one of my friends had experience with de Veers Plumbing and was very happy with the work they had done for her. I decided to give them a call and I would gladly call them again for any other plumbing needs in the future. They were able to replace my water heater in a few hours with little inconvenience to me or my schedule. They acted professionally at all times, were very knowledgeable about the work, and cleaned up the area when everything was done. I was very satisfied with the job they had accomplished and I have had no problems with my newly installed water heater.

I needed my hot water heater replaced, called Home Solutions Renovation & Inspection and set an appointment. The technician that came out, Eric, was punctual, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He had the old one out and the new one in before I even knew it. Eric also left the area cleaner than it was when he got there. I am so thankful to have hot water again. Thank you, Eric & Home Solutions Renovation & Inspection. Will definitely use them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
