I had an excellent experience with H Movers and my husband and I both agreed it was one of the best decisions we have ever made to hire them for our move. We moved from a third floor Victorian and these guys were pleasant and polite and upbeat the whole time, which I give a lot of credit for. They were fast and efficient and thoughtful, and packed everything from our 1300 sq ft apartment into the truck to make one trip. Eduardo was great in planning the move and communicating honestly about our needs and they were very careful with everything. I can guarantee I will never move my own things again, because this honestly made the moving day 1000% less stressful. They were professional, quick, and the rates were beyond reasonable. Can't recommend enough. I will recommend to all friends moving in the area.

Mr. Thomas Beard and his crew are awesome! I am a single mom who moved with my elderly mom and young child half way across the state. I felt safe and secure with Boston’s Best Rate Movers. The amount of professionalism and care his crew displayed was exceptional. When things went wrong, as they often do, Tom was ready and had an action plan and stuck to his original quote. I knew I had more stuff than anticipated but no one complained. My child became sick an hour before the move and the workers were wonderful. My only care that day was to tend to my sick child. Tom and his crew took care of EVERYTHING. Tom made the move painless and worry-free. I have moved twice in the past and I must say this was by far the best company. I will not only highly recommend them to any and everyone but I will also post their number and review on my social site and at work. Kudos to Eric and Garfield for the hard work and care they put into moving everything. While searching for a reasonable moving company, I came across Tom’s review. After reading the reviews then having an initial conversation with Tom, I knew this company was the one. I have no regret. Thanks, guys. You nailed it!

Moving has always been a nightmare for me. I dread it more than anything. I had moved myself from Michigan to Mass back in July and now four months later I found myself faced with moving again. I decided to use a moving company since it wasn't a long distance move this time and I was moving only an hour away. I got several estimates made some astronomical. Real Deal had submitted the second lowest estimate, but after checking the feedback on the lowest estimate, it was easy to see it was worth the ten dollars an hour more to go with Real Deal over the next lowest estimate. The cheapest isn't always the best and I look at companies reviews because I have a lot of valuable and fragile items that I don't want broken or stolen. The reviews on Real Deal were all good as opposed to endless tales of nightmare experiences with the others who had submitted estimates. The guys actually showed up and were at work ten minutes before they were scheduled. The guys were awesome. They were very careful with items, very efficient on their use of time, no goofing off or breaks. They had a job to do and they got there and got at it. They turned what usually is my greatest nightmare into an enjoyable experience.

John and his team did an excellent job with wrapping and protecting my furniture, even though it was a local move. The job ran longer than the original quote, but he was fair with the final price and all went well.

Geoffery and Jonathan were amazing! I hired them for our internal move. They were responsible for moving things out of our garage and apartment into a truck we rented. They listened to my husband and I as well as offered advice like where to purchase moving blankets and straps. They came prepared with drills in case we needed furniture taken apart and were prepared with different straps to help them move heavy things down three flights of stairs. They worked as quickly and carefully as they could. They were professional and extremely friendly. My husband and I HIGHLY recommend Son Light Movers and are sad we moved out of state and won't be able to use them for our next move!

Me and my family were moving from Watertown to Watertown, and we have a two floor, three bedroom house with a basement that was full of the loose stuff. The same day I talked to the salesman they came with an onsite estimate and quoted me a price with I was satisfied with. So I booked them for the following week. They showed up with an experienced crew of four, and handled my move in a fast manner. I am very satisfied with there service.

We can't say enough about the fantastic job that Mike and his crew did on our recent move. First off the two young men that helped Mike were the most courteous and well-mannered individuals. We were very impressed by their efficiency, politeness and willingness to tackle anything we needed. Our move turned out to be a two day and a two trip process across state lines. No matter what curve balls were thrown into the mix, Mike was amenable to getting the job done and keeping us happy and believe me, we had quite a few curve balls! At the end of the second long day, we asked Mike to move the existing refrigerator to the basement and put a new one in place (and this item wasn't even supposed to be on our list - we just added that in at the end!). No worries - Mike and the boys dragged the old fridge out and proceeded to bring the new one in only to find out that it didn't fit. Mike and my husband proceeded to remove the offending cabinet, got the fridge in place and put the old one downstairs. They had to take it outside and around to the basement over the snow in 7 degree weather! Both days it was snowing and freezing cold but you would never have known it by the smiles and the attitudes of Mike and his crew. By the way, Mike moved my Steinway grand piano (my prized possession) without a single hitch. He absolutely knows what he is doing. If you want it done right, call Mike. No worries!

Had to move my Dad to Assisted Living. We had to do so quickly too. Living out of state, I was concerned about going into this blindly. From the start they were outstanding. Flexible with the time after a screw up by the Assisted Luving Facility, they showed up and were friendly and professional. They worked nonstop, fast and were safe with my Dad's things. When a picture frame that I didn't pack appropriately was discovered to be cracked, the driver immediately apologized profusely and said "I'll go right after this to replace it". They found a CD of my Dad's old photos had slipped out of the box after they had left. Immediately, they called and said they wanted to get it back to my Dad. They offered to ship it, Witt tracking, because they knew how precious it was to him. They showed him respect and made a difficult day very light and pleasant. Can't thank them enough. Nor could I possibly recommend them higher. They we professional, prompt, friendly and reasonably priced. If you're using someone else to do your move, you're making a mistake.

VERY highly recommended. Five star service, to be sure! I contacted Focus on fairly last minute notice requesting an out-of-state move less than two weeks before Christmas. (Focus specializes in piano moving, and I needed my childhood piano + a few other miscellaneous items transported from Massachusetts to New York.) Owner Liviu responded to my initial quote query (which was competitive) nearly immediately and within the hour confirmed he'd be able to meet my timing needs, despite the holiday season. Furthermore, though I provided a 5-6 day window, he offered to complete the move on the MY ideal date. Sweet. What was great about the move itself? My mom indicated that Liviu and his right hand man showed up at her home at the exact appointed hour and that they carefully packed and protected all of the items that were to be trucked. In fact she let me know that Liviu and crew "were the best movers" she'd ever used and that she'd be using them for her own upcoming entire-home move. A bold statement, considering she's moved a LOT. Liviu was also a fab communicator. He kept me informed of his whereabouts via text message, sent email reminders and arrived on time at my delivery location as well. Additionally, Focus stuck to its quote (and then some, as Liviu delivered a couple of other less heavy items on the house without a quote adjustment), damaged nothing in transit and carefully yet swiftly manned my heavy upright Yamaha into its new abode. This was my second time requesting a quote on Thumbtack, but my first time on Thumbtack as a confirmed hirer. My experience was excellent, so I'll be using Thumbtack anew for piano tuning quotes. Thanks for helping me find Focus Moving. : )

These guys are awesome! I have a great ( doesn't mean good) experience in moving from different states and even countries and I know how painful this process is. Flash moving Co ( Anton and Fil) helped me with my move from Brookline to Norwood and I would say this was the most relaxed and laid-back move ever. They are efficient, they care about every single piece, my personal stuff, they are funny and attentive. Already planning my next move to NYC with these guys! Thank you!

Poseidon Moving helped us move from Boston to NC. After shopping around, they offered us the best price, and at a flat rate. This meant that we didn't share the truck with anyone else, therefore reducing worries about our things getting lost or mixed into other people's belongings. Surprisingly, this service was cheaper than some of the big-name brands (United, Allied, etc.) that ship multiple containers at a time. The team arrived exactly on time, picked everything up and disassembled some of our larger furniture, such as tables and the bed. They drove straight down to NC and the next morning they delivered our things. Nothing was broken and they put the furniture back together again. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for help moving either locally around Boston, or even across state lines. Thanks!

Our fall move to Somerville was made smooth thanks to TnT. The moving team came by on time and even helped with our last minute packing. They had great attitudes, despite having a heavy Sept 1 weekend moving schedule, and even moving us in the rain. They put together our furniture even better than the state they were in before the move! Our move took longer than expected, and the TnT management was extremely accommodating. The move was efficient and the value for the work was fantastic. Thanks!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
