Lynne Comb says, "February 19, 2026 So far, so good with the 3 new heaters in my house from Morris! The heaters were installed about 2 wks ago when it was very cold and windy with feet of snow piled up outside. Thank you to Andy who came ahead of time. He assessed and organized the job. Andy explained what would happen to have the old heaters replaced and got everything set up with scheduling and cost. Then Matt, Ramsey and Dan who worked outside for days in freezing cold temps. came at 7am every morning. Always with friendly smiles! They said not to worry about them out in the cold, that it was part of the job and that they are used to it!! I told them to come in and get warmed up, anyway! They shoveled long pathways through the snow, climbed into crawl spaces under the house and installed a large compressor outside. They also worked inside to remove and then replace and reconnect heaters to the power below in the crawl spaces. The whole time they worked, they were neat, cleaned up everyday and were very professional. Matt was excellent explaining about everything they needed to do and how to use the heater controls when they were installed. It was quite a job, especially considering the weather. Mike, the electrician came to check out an electrical issue at the end of the job. It took a while, but he found the problem. He discovered an electrical box in a closet that I had no idea we had in this old house! All of these young men working for Morris who came for this heater replacement at my house are hard workers, and very nice guys!! I definitely recommend Morris and their employees! Thanks very much for all of your effort !!! So happy with the new heaters that work!! Lynne Manchester, Ma."See more

Stanley Staco says, "I contacted Addario's Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical Services on a Sunday evening through social media after a newly installed indirect water heater left us without hot water. I was impressed by how responsive they were and was able to schedule a Monday morning appointment. The technicians arrived within the promised time window.Unfortunately, the first technician crew sent were overwhelmed by the issue. After taking photos he repeatedly presented authorization forms and charges before even explaining the problem or proposed solution if any would even be viable. Despite being informed that an electrician had already verified the wiring, he kept suggesting and pushing that the issue is electrical and he clearly uncertain about the next steps. To Addario's credit, once the situation was escalated, a supervisor quickly recognized that a different skill set was needed and reassigned the job to another team. The replacement technicians were outstandingprofessional, knowledgeable, transparent, and thorough. They quickly diagnosed the issue, clearly explained the repairs and costs, and worked diligently for several hours to restore our hot water. They also took the time to explain follow-up recommendations to prevent future problems. The final cost was close to $900, which is significant, but given the emergency nature of being without hot water, I needed the issue resolved quickly. In the end, the second team earned this review and turned what was becoming a frustrating experience into a positive outcome."See more

Debra Green Robertson says, "Recently we had ACS Mechanical come to our home to discuss having a new mini split system to take the place of our very old unit. We also needed a new system put into our master bedroom and vented down into our 2nd floor bathroom as well. Randy was very knowledgeable and went through different options to meet our needs. We decided on the units and scheduled installation. The team would contact us each day to let us know they were enroute and when they arrived. Very professional!. Randy, Viktor and Jeffrey could not have been more pleasant. The units were installed and everything runs perfectly. If you are looking for a company to install or manage AC/Heating units, honestly look no further than ACS Mechanical. You will not be disappointed!"See more

Joe W. says, "This was easily one of the best service experiences I’ve ever had with my mini-split unit. The team arrived, immediately inspected the outside unit, and then came inside to take a closer look. They were incredibly kind, professional, and respectful throughout the entire visit. They explained everything they were doing along the way, answered my questions, and even took their shoes off before coming into the house. It’s the little things like that that really show how much they care about their customers and their work. I’ve had other companies come out to service the unit in previous years, and the experience wasn’t even close to the level of service I received from this team. They also discovered that the original installer had installed the unit incorrectly, so I’ll absolutely be having them come back to correct it. I highly recommend them and will definitely be using them for any future mini-split service or repairs. Thanks again for such a great experience!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

Heating typically constitutes 42 percent of a homeowner’s utility bill, according to Energy.gov. If your heating bills are through the roof, it might be time to compare what you’re spending on utility bills to the cost of a new furnace. A new furnace can cost between $1,000 and $2,700 for standard big-box forced-air furnaces, and more than $10,000 for advanced technology or high-end brands.

With a new furnace you could lower your total energy bill by 30 percent while also reducing your carbon footprint. To achieve these savings, Energy.gov recommends combining proper equipment maintenance, insulation, air sealing, strategic thermostat settings, and — of course — energy-efficient HVAC equipment. The furnace cost you’re facing may seem large upfront, but should save you money in the long term with improved home heating at a lower cost. Furnace cost is dictated by brand, efficiency, technology and the British thermal units (BTUs) needed to heat your home. AFUE is another important acronym. It’s short for annual fuel utilization efficiency, and it represents what percentage of the fuel becomes heat for the home. Energy.gov explains that an AFUE of 90 percent means 90 percent of the energy in the fuel is used to heat the home, and the other 10 percent escapes.

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

  • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
  • The temperature cannot be regulated.
  • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
  • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
  • The thermostat isn’t working.
  • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
