Kim was an absolute pleasure to work with for our wedding in Durham, NH, on June 11, 2016! She made the entire process very easy for us. Her initial groundwork forms got us to really think about the whole day; from the first guest arriving until the last song of the night. She took the time to meet with us both in person and on conference call in advance of the big day and walk through everything to ensure everything made sense and that we were all on the same page. When our wedding day came, Kim and her assistant were AMAZING! The dance floor was packed the entire night and at the one moment it looked like it might slow down, Kim helped revive it perfectly! This is all on top of the fantastic job they did making a very last minute change from an outdoor ceremony to indoor due to inclement weather, which we are so grateful for her professionalism and quick action. Kim provided some surprise touches to the wedding which included providing a bin of flip flops for any ladies who may not have brought a change of shoes but still wanted to hit the dance floor as well as a Michael Jackson hat and glove which found its way to the floor during Billy Jean for an impromptu King of Pop dance off! She was able to deftly make changes to the schedule mid-reception; for example, we’d decided to cut the bouquet and garter toss due to time constraints (again, thanks rain). She also snagged a great picture or two from alternate angles than our photographer which she shared with us. If you’re looking for a DJ who is easy to deal with, not looking to outshine you and your guests by being on the mic all night, and fully committed to making your day as perfect as it can be; we couldn’t more highly recommend Kim Collins for your wedding!Jun 25, 2016Verified
DJ Kim Collins. She did our wedding day this Saturday on Valentine's Day in New Hampshire in a blizzard, and yet, she was there on time, PROFESSIONAL, EXTRAORDINARY WORK, IMPRESSIVE, PERSONABLE, FRIENDLY, BEYOND GOOOD. Kim handled everything with professionalism, enjoyment, pride, and fun. She played every song on our list, when we wanted, and how we wanted it to be announced, if needed. She arrived way before the event, stayed until the very end and played music throughout, played every request, and we danced the night away. I would never hesitate to hire her once again for any event, her music is vast and there is nothing she couldn't find for us. Every song was played at the right time that WE wanted it done. She was amazing and worth every penny. Thank you Kim for your smile, your enthusiasm, and your hard work........We will definitely be distributing your name and card all over Cape Cod and beyond, to all our friends and family.....Thank you for your very good job.....Irene and DavidFeb 17, 2015Verified
Kim has a great personality, very friendly, inquisitive and energetic. We appreciated that. We knew that Kim's background was in radio, but unfortunately she introduces a lot of her songs that way too ... speaking at the beginning of them, like a DJ would introduce a song ... that was a little frustrating at times... because she would merge songs together, when they needed an actual entrance (father&bride dance, we wanted to start from the beginning of song, since we had rehearsed it) ... same with wedding party song at beginning (Tie it Up), wedding party was supposed to dance a little with us, to celebrate and "start off" the evening ... she smushed that in for 3 seconds and then suddenly I had to grab my groom because our "1st dance" song was starting, which is a vast different pace and sound from the one she transitioned from .... I think those kinds of special songs should have a nice clear pause, start and actual end, because they are highlights and momentous ... Things like this caused it to be a blur. She played maybe 40% of the "must play" songs, which were important to us b/c they were requests of our wedding guests and of ours, we wanted them to hear their favorites as well. She needed to have perhaps a stronger sense for the "younger" crowd hip-hop and R&B music, since we noted that, along with the mix of wedding classics. I felt as though Kim was trying to work the wedding and coordinate through out the evening, instead of being a DJ. If you want this for your wedding, so that things stay on tight tight schedule, then yes - she's your gal. She is sweet and nice and open to suggestions, but I didnt want to be asking her for certain things or songs, on my actual wedding day. Several guests, including myself, the bride, went up to her asking her to play a certain song, "please , play it right now", because I knew it would motivate the crowd which was sometimes hit or miss in the evening. I think the catering crew, which had a manager, should have been the one going to Kim to nudge her along with announcing certain things, but instead I felt like she was going to the catering manager, or me directly telling me what was to come next -- it interrupted things and put me on the spot often, and I wanted to see a DJ crank it up for my guests ... Thank you Kim for your time and service.Jul 15, 2014Verified
Kim was a wonderful DJ for our wedding. I can't tell you the number of guests who came up to us to tell us how good she was. Not only was she fantastic at choosing songs which got people up and dancing but she arrived super early and went found out how to pronounce everyone's names, organized our wedding parties for the entrance, arranged the toasts beautifully and even though we hadn't planned to have a last dance, she advised us to do it and it was a beautiful moment which we would have missed if she hadn't been so knowledgeable. We were so busy leading up to the wedding that we gave her very little direction and were shockingly late at turning in our playlists but she still managed to provide us with exactly what we wanted. She even took some absolutely gorgeous photos which she shared with us - some of which are going in our wedding album! She is truly a gem and we are so grateful!Jul 8, 2014Verified
No one expected a dj at my husband's 50th birthday party, and Kim delivered a sound and atmosphere that made the party very memorable! She played our favorite artists/songs, and kept the volume just right throughout the night. She's delightful, professional with a warm sincere presence. Money well spent!Nov 20, 2016Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My price may not be the lowest but I can guarantee that I'm among the best when it comes to emcee work and being able to work a room. I am one of a very few female dj's who can engage a crowd and fill a dance floor...without being cheesy and self absorbed.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I'm happy to talk with clients on the phone first to give them an idea of how I work and then I always meet with couples before the wedding to get to know one another and go over the timeline.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?My extensive experience in radio definitely helped me get where I am today.
