Introduction

**I have current openings for online students only as of May 2024. Lessons are for everyone. Whether you're a total beginner, an advanced student preparing for an audition, or are simply picking up your flute again after many years, you've come to the right place! I believe in teaching music holistically. At the foundation of my teaching philosophy is leading my students to build a positive relationship with their instrument, and building healthy practice routines and mindsets. Over the years, I have been lucky to work with phenomenal soloists and orchestral flutists, and I love passing that knowledge on to my own students. I offer 30, 45, and 60 minute online lessons. ABOUT Outside of my own private studio, I am currently a private lesson instructor at the North End Music & Performing Arts Center, and a freelance flutist in and around Boston. I recently earned my master’s at the New England Conservatory of Music, and am a graduate of The Hartt School, where I received a bachelor's degree in Flute Performance and Music Management. I have had the opportunity to mentor undergraduate flute students at both The Hartt School and the New England Conservatory, coaching underclassmen through solo and orchestral repertoire. My past and current teachers include Janet Arms, April Michaud, and Cynthia Meyers, piccolo player of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Their teaching styles and philosophies have greatly influenced my own, and I am always looking for ways to incorporate that wisdom into my teaching. When I'm not performing or teaching, I enjoy running and taking care of my (many) houseplants in my free time.

Erika is a fantastic teacher! After studying at the Hartt School of Music, she was willing to mentor me in order to help me improve in my flute playing! She has helped me tremendously with tone, technique, phrasing, and a variety of other skills as well. She is very compassionate as well and was able to help me become more confident as an instrumentalist. Honestly, if anyone knows how to play and teach, it’s her!

As a composer, I've sought Erika's playing for many of my compositions when we were in college together at the Hartt School. She always came prepared and consistently showed professional quality in her music making - premiering my Flute Sonata to great success. What really struck me, however, was her good nature, and, her willingness to tackle new, often difficult pieces, in addition to her copious school work. She's equally as talented as an orchestral player, chamber player, or soloist, as I have worked with her in all these capacities. If ever I have flute music needing to be read or recorded, she will be the one I would call.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are currently $70/hour, $55 for a 45 minute lesson, and $40 for a 30 minute lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For new students, I'll have an initial phone call to get to know you, and to make sure I'd be a good fit as a teacher. We can then decide on an appropriate lesson length, and set up a weekly lesson time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a current master's student at the New England Conservatory, and a graduate of The Hartt School, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Music Management.
