Hi! I teach online drum and percussion and lessons on Zoom. I teach all ages and experience levels on drum set (all styles) and Afro-Cuban hand percussion. My teaching style is based on the belief that every student is unique and requires a unique approach. Whether you have never played an instrument before or you have been playing for years - I can always find ways to help my students deepen their skills and musicality. With my drum lessons you will grow your love of music, strengthen your rhythm and your technique, become confident in any style of drumming you choose to study, and have a bunch of fun while doing it!
A little about me:
I am a drummer and percussionist with 18 years of teaching and performing experience. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music from Berklee College of Music, focusing on performance, music production, and composition. I have performed with many different groups around the United States, Mexico, and Cuba. I have also performed as a guest artist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I play drums and percussion in many genres and kinds of music (rock, jazz, hip hop, classical, Afro-Cuban, Arabic, and more).

My child has had a great experience getting lessons from Nate. He is easy going and patient which are great teaching qualities, and is able to keep lessons fun too. Nate provides practice homework with each lesson, and provides occasional virtual drum shows so the kids can show off their skills, so fun! High quality drumlessons from a great teacher who is fair and kind, I would recommend lessons with Nate to anyone.

There aren't many things in life that a high-anxiety teenager would report to parents as "fun" (particularly a one-on-one learning environment), but week after week for the past two years that's the review we hear about drum lessons with Nate. My son is never bored or overwhelmed. Nate has helped him improve his rudimentary skills, be creative, learn how to take care of his drum kit, and how to think like a drummer. My son has now performed with his school rock band. Online or in person, there is value in every lesson.

Nate has been tutoring both our 13, and 11 year olds now for a few years. We highly suggest Nate as a Drum instructor. He is a very talented musician and instructor. Nate is very patient, and works at the pace of the student, while always providing encouragement, guidance and continued support throughout the session. If you are considering learning drums, whether you are a beginner through advanced, Nate would be the perfect choice.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically teach one lesson a week to each of my students. I book lessons by the calendar month. I do not charge any extra fees or provide any discounts.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I prefer to have a talk on the phone before the first lesson (but email can work too) to get some background information on my new student (what kind music do they like, what musical experience do they have, etc), as well as to discuss any gear (drums, stands, sticks, pads, etc) that they might already have or will need. From there, we can book a trial lesson to get to know each other.
During the trial lesson we will play some rhythmic games, try out some different rhythms and styles on the drums, review the basics of technique, and maybe listen to some music together. All of this is so I can get a better idea of who my new student is, what they like, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and what are the best ways to approach their lessons. I am able to adjust this process to fit any age and experience level. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching, so this is an important step. If our first lesson goes well, then we can talk about booking more.

I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music.
I have been performing and teaching professionally since I was 13 years old. I have played with many groups in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Colorado, Miami, Mexico City, and Havana.
Since the age of 11 I have been studying drum set, Afro Cuban percussion, Arabic percussion, Classical percussion, Afro Brazilian percussion, and North Indian percussion. I have been very lucky to study with some of the greatest drummers and percussionists in these different musical worlds, including Manley Lopez, Samuel Ruttenberg, Pablo Batista, Joseph Tayoun, Marcus Santos, Mikael Ringquist, and Jerry Leake.
