Hello students and parents!
I am a scientist in the biotech industry (with experience in bioengineering as well) and have been tutoring for over 10 years, specializing in middle school mathematics, algebra, test prep, study and organizational skills, and organic chemistry.
I obtained a Master's degree in chemical engineering at Columbia University in 2019, and my BS in Neurobiology from the University of Texas. When I took the GRE in preparation for my graduate school applications, I scored 169/170 (96th percentile) on Quantitative, 164/170 (94th percentile) on Verbal, and 4.5/6.0 (84th percentile) on Writing.
I am very purposeful about customizing tutoring to match specific goals, learning style, and the student’s personality. I can help you with specific questions or I can lead the session if you aren’t sure where to begin. I am very patient, I have worked with all kinds of students at many levels and personalities. Everyone learns differently, has different motivations, strengths, and struggles. My goal is always to encourage and build confidence. When a student is not understanding, I seek to understand where the disconnect is happening. Teaching is also creative -- I approach confusion as an opportunity to find new ways of explaining and guiding the student.
As a student I enjoyed developing my own study and organizational skills, so now it is rewarding for me to pass along this knowledge and keep those skills sharp. Tutoring is also personally rewarding because it allows me to grow as a teacher -- I am always trying out new ways of approaching and explaining problems.
Feel free to reach out with any questions!
