FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There is no complication in pricing. In Massachusetts, fees are set by law: so if a JP performs a ceremony in the community where they reside, the fee is $100.00, outside of the area, the fee is $150.00. If a couple wants a rehearsal, then the fee for that service needs to be disclosed to the couple before the ceremony.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a member of both the Massachusetts Justice of the Peace Association and MJPA has quarterly meetings that address issues relating to marriage and being a Justice. I also belong to jp.us who have an annual meeting that also addresses continuing education.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Marriage equality became the law in Massachusetts in 2004. Many couples who before only had a domestic partnership or a commitment ceremony finally were able to be legally married.
