Here is my honest opinion about J&M renovations. J&M are not licensed to be a GC in state of Massachusetts. They use someone else’s license to pull permits and pay them some sort of fee. Nevertheless, they seemed professional and polite at the beginning and after vetting process I hired them. Once, the deposit was given and they started permit process and run into zoning issues with the city. Neither nor Larissa knew about the zoning rules nor their useless architect Renata at RB designs. Someone would think they would know such things. Anyhow, I spent the following 6 months of my life on permit process and was able to get the permit, but something has changed with J&M approach towards the project since then. I felt like they somehow regretted about the project. Soon after getting the permit, they broke ground and started the work. That’s when I started noticing things. Cement footings were done very sloppy, out of six footing two of them were crooked not aligned. When I questioned, I got typical response, don’t worry we will fix it. Framing though was done very well. I think Doug is an amazing framer, but that’s it. He is not a finish guy. I would be lucky if I get one or two guys working on the project. They were pre occupied with other projects and I got the shit end of crew. When I brought this up with Larissa, her response was, sorry I am busy with other projects, work with my husband. Hence, her husband Doug is nice guy, but only speaks like 15% English. Something that should have been tops 13 weeks of time, took over 24 weeks to complete. Once you bring up completion date, they would argue with you and blame the city inspections for the delays. Don’t even start me with their subs. It took the plumber to install 30 ft of 1/2 gas pipe three weeks. Roofer would show up in his Honda civic just around dusk and work in the dark. Not sure how you can do roofing when it’s dark outside. Somedays the subs wouldn’t even show up. When I questioned that, I was told by Larissa that she has no controls over her subs schedule. If so, then why are you even call yourself a GC. Absolutely, no accountability at all, every time I would bring something up or express my corrective criticism.
Instead of owning the problem they would argue and blame everything either on you or someone else. Someone would expect that their GC would communicate with them on weekly basis about the project, but not with these people. Maybe they are good for kitchen cabinet and other minor work, but definitely not major addition. Especially, when you are located at Boston Metro towns that have difficult building departments. Definitely not a professional workmanship. Mediocre at the best. Safe your dollar and energy hire someone reputable and experienced. Again, maybe they are good at small projects but nothing major.

Just had a remodeling/addition to my house and Douglas was absolutely great! Kept timing and budget as planed from the beginning. My family and I are very happy with entire project and definitely recommend J&M to our friends and family.

Douglas did a great job. My family is very happy with his work. He was very professional from start to finish. You could tell right away he knows how to do things the right way. I would highly recommend Douglas for home improvement projects.

Highly recommend, Douglas and Larissa from J&M Renovation. They did my kitchen renovation. They have good ideas and do the highest quality work. Highest quality craftsmanship. They finished the jib on time. They start a job and stay until is completed. No going back and forth between multiples jobs which is often a problem with others contractors. The result of the job was worth every single penny.

Wonderful experience working with Douglas and Larissa from J&M Renovation. The entire process of getting our kitchen remodeling covered by insurance and then worked on went so quickly and effortlessly. Douglas was very professional. prompt, quick to respond to any questions, and made sure our kitchen was taken care of start to finish. The workers also did a fantastic job, were polite, on time and did a great job with the clean up. Overall, my husband and I strongly recommend J&M Renovation
