Treatment type
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I focus on emotional issues from the perspective of the body. Unlike a pure bodyworker, who might address physical issues alone, or a psychotherapist, who uses only touch, in my work I combine talk and touch to address the whole person and reveal their story. Witnessing. So many people tell me that they've never told anyone the things they are telling me, and the telling alone - having someone there who can hold your story and help you contain it - is a powerful healing in itself.

I sought out Kamela for support during a huge physical and emotional transition (pregnancy!). I was searching out providers online, with an open ear for bodywork or talk therapy but a preference for someone who could do integrative body/mind work. I have experience with various kinds of bodywork (from acupuncture to chraniosacral therapies to massage) as well as with talk therapy (and am myself a therapist). Kamela stood out as someone who understood the complexities of bodies in relationship, of communication, and of tuning in. She has not disappointed on any of these counts. Her work has impressed me with its depth and its subtlety. A typical session involves coming in, grounding in the space, then checking in verbally for 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer). We then move to the table, where she uses very subtle adjustments and movements (with my clothes on) to help me connect to my physical self. I tend to disconnect from my body, and she has wonderful and deceptively simple questions to help me return. My favorite moments are those when she uses the body as a metaphor, and invites me to reflect on a phrase about my body I have just said (for example, "that leg feels like it's going in all different directions"). Often these moments open big wells of emotion I had not been aware of, and allow me some release. Kamela has a way of connecting with your energy that is very calm and powerful. I am not super comfortable with physical or vocal expressions, and she doesn't push me to do go too far outside my comfort zone. However, I get the sense that she has a range of abilities and approaches that could vary greatly depending on person and preference. She works out of her home, which has caused no problems whatsoever (I rarely see anyone but her when I arrive or leave). The space is comfortable and cozy. Her prices are very reasonable, particularly if you take advantage of her package deals. Highly recommended.

So, I'm a trans male-to-female and I have been working with Kamela for about a 1 1/2 years now and she has been amazing! She's giving me advice about where to shop and where not to shop. She's also given me great advice while out shopping, such as what to get and what to avoid, what looks good on me and what doesn't. I couldn't have done this without her help and guidance.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer a sliding scale hourly rate of $65-100. This means that I see you for an hour at a time, and you pay anywhere along that scale that is comfortable and feels fair to you.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes. The professional organization of Rubenfeld Synergists, INARS, has a conference every year where a lot of continuing education takes place. I also take webinars, regular mentoring, and other training related to sexuality, performing arts, and other areas of specific interest that dovetail with my work.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I'm not an "energy healer." What I do isn't "woo woo." I simply acknowledge and work with the fact that for modern humans, the body and the mind aren't always going in the same direction, and certainly don't speak the same language. I work to get them talking.
