I already rebooked! She was professional and also very friendly. It didn't feel awkward having someone in my home grooming my dog. She also included my curious three year old in the process! She left the bathroom cleaner than she found it. Highly recommend.

I would highly recommend Deborah for pet sitting services. You can tell she loves her job and her furry clients. Deborah took such great care of my dog Dixie and my friends dog Murphy while we vacationed for a week. I don't think they wanted to come home. They were quite tuckered out upon their return. Thanks Deborah for treating our dogs like they were your own!

Karen is wonderful with my dog! Usually after the initial meet & greet I prefer to be at the first few visits until I know my dog and the pet sitter are comfortable with each other. But my dog took yo Karen immediately and I was able to skip that step very comfortably. My dog fell in love with her instantly, and he is usually a very cautious dog. And as dog lovers know, we can trust their instincts. Karen has been so flexible and goes above & beyond. I'm so grateful I found her!

Kendra has been watching my dog Cooper for 5 years now. I can't think of enough good things to say about her!! It is such a relief to go on vacation and have her stay at our house. Not only does she give my dog excellent care, somehow my house is cleaner then when I left! On one particular trip as we were leaving my dog had a little cough, a couple of days later it got worse and Kendra took him to the vet, picked up medicine and made sure he was well. When we came home he was back to normal. Kendra is always reliable she has never once cancelled and has actually gone out of her way to help us out on last minute trips or emergencies. Most importantly is how much my dog loves her! I have recommended Kendra to many friends and all have been thrilled with her services.

Gail is very reliable, dog loving person. She provided me with 2 references which were a pleasure to speak with and they both gave her high praises on her reliability and care for their own pets.

Vera has been incredibly helpful for my dog, Nala, and me. She tailors her sessions to the people and dogs in her class, so everyone is getting their issues and needs met. She's big on 'meeting you where you are at" and helping you understand your dog so you are able to meet them where they are at. When she gives you feedback and suggestions, she is sensitive in her approach and you end up feeling more confident in your ability to train and interact with your dog, rather than feeling like you're a complete failure. You definitely have to put in your fair share of work outside of classes, and she checks in with you to see how you're progressing, which helps hold you accountable. Since beginning our work with Vera, I have noticed that Nala is calmer and looks to me more often for guidance. She responds more quickly when I correct her as well. Nala and I have more work to do but Vera has helped us get the ball rolling in the right direction. I highly recommend Vera for dog owners who want to have a more cooperative dog!

She is amazing with the animals! She taught my dog (and me) most of the basic commands in just 45 mins with great results! She spent a good 2 hrs. Talking about ways I can help my dog (new rescue), and how she is willing to help me. I could not have found a better, more personable trainer than Kim.

About

I have over 4 years of experience as a pet sitter. I have done overnight pet sitting as well for up to a week at a time. I am also very active due to my military training, so running with dogs a couple of times a day would be a nice workout for both myself and your pet.

About

My name is Avery Bowlan. I recently moved to Massachusetts from Oklahoma and had to leave my dogs behind with my family. I was severely lacking in canine affection over my first few months in Massachusetts, so I began dog walking. I would love the opportunity to spend some time caring for your pets, making sure that they get the exercise and time in the outdoors that every dog needs. I am an active individual who enjoys running and, of course, a good game of fetch. I have experience walking up to ten dogs, several times a week. I'm willing to get outside, rain or shine! There's nothing like a good jog in the rain! I also own an iPhone 5s, which I never leave home without. I believe that communication is extremely important, especially within the dog walking industry. I really hope to have the opportunity to help make my customers and their dogs happy by providing exceptional dog walking service.

About

Hello there! My name is Alyssa and I am a professional dog trainer. I currently work at a dog training facility. At this facility I train and rehabilitate dogs. I have trained dogs with all different temperaments and behavior issues (fear aggression, dog aggression, agression towards humans, separation anxiety). That being said, no dog is too much for me! Other than my work life, I love to hangout with my pup and go for hikes. I am currently enrolled in the criminal justice program at my college and hope that one day I can work for a federal agency or with the police K-9 unit. With my services, I will be able to do obedience training for an hour a day with your pup as I am caring for him/her. Your dog will also experience some awesome hiking trips! If you would like to know more about me or my services, just ask! I have plenty of references from clients that I would be happy to provide!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
