FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard pricing is $50.00 per hour. However, I am often able to provide a discount to thumbtack students, or students with financial difficulties. For more information, feel free to contact me at 09esiegel (at) gmail.com, or through my website: www (dot) ethansiegelviolin (dot) com.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During the first lesson, I always ask what a student wants to get out of lessons. Sometimes students are beginners and just want to learn how to hold the instrument and play their first pieces. Other times, students are at an intermediate level and need extra help preparing repertoire for a big performance or audition. Whatever the answer is, I always tailor my approach to fit the student's goals so that they can achieve whatever it is they want to do as efficiently as possible, while still having fun !
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended the Manhattan School of Music for 8 years from 2001-2009, before doing my undergraduate degree in Violin Performance at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. I graduated with high honors, before coming to Boston to pursue a master's degree in violin performance at the New England Conservatory where I am a scholarship student studying with Soovin Kim. I have also maintained an active teaching studio for 7 years, while also being a frequent performer in the Boston classical scene. I have also studied string pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching the violin) with Rebecca Henry, who is a world-renowned teacher of string pedagogy at the Peabody Institute. My methodology is based on my studies with Ms. Henry, as well as the standardized repertoire recommendations made by the American String Teacher's Association. I also incorporate different approaches that are based on the teaching philosophies of Paul Roland, Shinichi Suzuki, Leopold Auer, and Demetrius Dounis.
